What is bump?

I read it all the time, and thought I knew, but maybe I should just ask. What does it mean when somebody responds to a post with "bump?"

Hi,
When you view a group's forum, posts are listed in the order of when the last reply was added.
When someone posts "bump" in a reply to a post, they are bringing the whole thread to the top of the group so more people will see it.
