This is not a scam. If your home is slected you get a scanner and you scan everything you purchase. Then once a week you send the data via a cable attached to the computer. Answer surveys as well and for doing both of these things you earn points. They also give you a chance to earn bonus points through different programs. Once you earn enough points you cash them in for gifts in their catalogue. I haven't cashed any of my points in yet, saving for the big prizes, but it only took me 6 months to qualify for the first level of prizes...of course if you transmit once a week once you hit 6 months the points you earn go up so you can get to that next level faster and faster. The other benefit is that the Neilsen pannel takes the information you scan and uses it to see what John Q Public purchases and your purchases decide what products stay on the market and what products don't. This is just like any other survey and opinion pannel but the Neilsen Pannel has been around forever. These are the same people that do the TV and radio ratings.
