So I go to the doctor on Friday because I woke up in the middle of the night with my throat so sore I could barely even swallow my spit. I called first thing in the morning but couldn't get in until 1:45. So I get a sitter for the baby and head out the door about 1:15. Now, mind you, I don't have any insurance right now due to leaving my job after Ashlyn was born. The doctor comes in and checks my throt and ears and all the other normal things for a sore throat when she decides that she needs to check my blood pressure again. Checks that and sends me to their lab to have an EKG. I come back from that and we start discussing family history and my past stuff (the doc was a fill in) and I admit that I had been being treated w/ a med for bipolar prior to my pregnancy, but was doing so well never went back on it. I had recently noticed my moods fluctuating but I just chalked it up to stress w/ the holidays coming and looking for a new house. However, the doctor asked me if I had been feeling any anxiety lately. And I lost it! I started bawling right there to this woman I had never met before. She ended up telling me that my heart rate and BP had been through the roof, which was way too abnormal for me seeing as I am 26, have quit smoking, rarely drink, and have never done a drug in my life. She ended up giving me a shot that made me feel a bit more relaxed. When I was able to calm back down, she came back in and discussed w/ me that I should go back on my bipolar med plus she put me on xanax to help with the anxiety/panic attacks. I ended up at the doctor's office for over 3 hours, cuz after all that she ran some blood work to check my thyroid now too. All that for an appointment for a sore throat!
