I should not have any problem coming up with a post for this theme, as there are so many phrases in the modern vernacular that I find offensive and annoying, but here I find myself unable to choose...
should it be the use of the word there when they mean their or they're? But that is only when written...
should it be the overuse of the word "hate", as in "I hate these shoes", because that would imply that at one point you loved them or at least some other shoe, which is a poor choice in my opinion for a love interest (although there are my Liz Clayborne boots that I might be able to express some strong feelings for...but love??)
should it be "promise"...because it has become a hollow echo of what the word once meant.
I think I have decided, though, on the words "breaking news" because it is usually some sensationalized crap that does not touch on the REAL issues, but rather some starlet's overdose with no mention of the sad life she had running from the press, or the flooding of some town with no mention of the development project that destroyed the natural waterways which would have prevented it.
