Fenton Twp.--- The big campaign is over, but now a local no-kill animal resuce group is looking for your vote--with a $25,000 grant at stake.
The funds go to the winner of a national contest, The $100,000 Shelter Challenge, sponsored by the Web site www.theanimalresuesite.com. The winner is determined by who recieves the most online votes. People can vote once a day through Dec. 14.
Jody Maddock, Adopt-A-Pet's program director, said the 50-year-old nonprofit group needs cash, so an online win would mean a lot.
"The economy is really bad, and our donations are not quite as high as in the past," Maddock said.
With $25,000, Adopt-A-Pet could:
- Spay or neuter 800 cats.
- Build a 20-by-20-foot addition to the cat room.
- Treat 125 dogs for serious illnesses.
Adopt-A-Pet volunteers have spread the word, Maddock said, but so far the group has not cracked the top 10 list posted daily on the Web site.
