As some of you know, I was having contractions for the whole week! The docs just kept telling me to come back when my water broke or when I couldn't breathe. Well, finally The contractions were awful!
I woke up at 3 am on Sat with way worse contractions. Since it was my DH's Bday I decided to try not to wake him up. I tried to roll around and get more comfortable and try to sleep through it. NOT HAPPENING. So I decided to go ahead and take a bath. I took a warm bath, it helped a bit but by six am my contractions were about 3 to 4 minutes apart and terrible. I called into L & D and asked what to do. They told me to take my time. so DH and I got up, grabbed our stuff. Put together a baby car seat, installed it, had breakfast and strolled into L & D. By this time I could NOT walk through a contraction.
A doc examined me and said that I was a "keeper" and admitted me, I was at 3 cm. I labored until 4 pm and I was only to a 4!! I was walking, sitting on the birthing ball and trying everything to try to relieve the pain. It was not helping. So I decided to go ahead and get an epidural.
Yeah the epidural scared the crap out of me. the numbing shots HURT! then they didn't work all the way, and It hurt when she tried to insert the catheder. Once it was finally in they gave me the "test" dosage to check for reactions and then gave me a good dosage. The nurse put in a foley and was setting up the "self doser" for the epidural when I had a sudden burst of WARM liquid. I was like, "uhm... I think my water just broke." The nurse said- oh possibly I'll check in a minute. so she finished up the machine and came to set it up and I was bubbling... LOL yep, water broke!
Then They checked me at 7 pm and I was at a 7! Horay 3 cm in 3 hours. They told me to let them know when I thought that I might need to push.
I told my DH at about 10 that I thought I needed to push. He asked if I was sure. after another contraction I told him that Yes, I was pretty sure. He called the nurse and when she finally came in she checked me and I was at a 10 and at -2!
She called the midwife. When she came in she had me "practice" pushing... Ha ha... I must have been further than -2 because one push and I was crowning!! SO she told me to stop for a second. When she came over and I started pushing my DH got all Ashen and dizzy and had to sit down and be given oxygen!! Ha ha!! So the midwife had me reach down when I started pushing again. I felt his big head of hair, and looked in the mirror. we started laughing and joking and the midwife gave him a mohawk while we waited for another contraction...
Then his head was out, and the midwife had me reach down and PULL HIM OUT MYSELF!! That was SO COOL! I delivered my own son!! It was awesome! I put him on my chest. we waited for the cord to stop pulsating before DH cut the cord. Then I held him for a while, he peed on me like 3 times!! and then he got weighed and measured and APGAR tested. 9.9 out of 10!! The nurse said that the only reason he didn't get a 10 is because they don't give them out here! So I breast fed and we were sent to recovery! The best part is that he was born on his Daddy's birthday!!
I hope you all enjoyed my birth story.

What a fantastic story. Congratulations on the birth of such a precious angel.
What a beautiful birth story! :) Congratulations, Momma!!
I have 5 children... 1 hosp birth and 4 home births... all "delivered" by midwives ...well, except the 2 that DH caught! lol I've written... I'd love for you to come over and read. :)
HUGs!!
It's soo sweet thanks for shareing. That is great that they let you do all of that at the hospital. I practically caught and delivered my last 2 myself too. I also had my last one in a birth center, and loved having a midwife. You look so good in your picture. Congrats again!
