you know...Kairi (k-i-ree) has not really started babbling yet. i mean she will every once in a while but its very seldom that she does and it kind of bothers me a little. She has not even come close to mama or dada yet! NO EVEN CLOSE! all she says is baba. but im worried because she is over 9 months old.  she started crawling before sixth months and pulling up before seven. so she is ahead in physical things. but behind on the mental things. Is it a big deal or should i be worried that she is not talking yet? any advice to jump start her?  I already talk to her all the time, but still that does not really help and when she does start talking i always make sure to talk back to her to prompt her to do it some more.

What does the doctors say?  Have you had her hearing checked?  That was what delayed my dd's speech...she had chronic ear infections (never ran fever, got fussy, no traditional symptoms) and she couldn't hear.   I would have her evaluated by her ped. to rule out physical problems...  and TALK to her all the time, not baby talk but regular talk, singing...

Good luck

I've read some about it and from what I've read babies tend to focus on one area of development at a time. Walking/crawling instead of talking or vice versa, etc. I also noticed this to be true with the daycare that I ran out of my home until a few months ago. All the other babies seemed to be developing their motor skills much quicker than my son, BUT, my son was able to say so many more things than they did.

From what I've read, how early/late they begin talking makes little difference in the end. However, it did say that if there are no words at all by 15 months, an evaluation is probably a good idea. I would also just ask your pediatrician at your daughters next check up as well.

I wouldn't worry too much right now. Also, my DS stopped saying words all of a sudden. For three days he wouldn't say anything (this was around 9 months I guess - but again, he was talking early). It really worried us. But, we talked to a speech therapist where my husband works, who works with babies. She said that it is common for children to do that as their brain develops. It is sort of as if the brain is making room for other development. Obviously that's not technical, but that's how she explained it to us, the whole idea of how they focus on one thing at a time.

I hope that helps a little! =)

I would not stress Mama!  Every baby is different!  My daughter is two and is not forming sentences yet and only says about 10 - 15 words on a regular basis and my doctor said she is fine, she is just not a talker.

at 9 months......your FINE! I think she sounds totally normal. just read to her a lot. my dd didn't say mama until more like a year. and dada around 10 months. my doc told me that as long as they are making sounds that sound like things......(baba being one of them), it doesn't have to be a "word" just a sound that will turn into a word. it sounds like she is on track.
and I don't know if this is true or not, but I think babies that work on physical things first, then work on verbal later.
my dd didn't crawl until 9 months, but walked at 11 months. and after she began walking, is when the verbal just exploded. give her time. keep reading to her, and know that if your concerned, ask at your next ped checkup!  don't fret, I think it sounds normal!
