As author Alan Cuthbertson and wife, Heather, begin their move, daughters Ashlie and Stacey have other ideas and take off on their own adventure to Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. The girls swim with sharks and work in a gold mine, their enthusiasm and naivety shown in the e-mails and texts received by their parents, who themselves are finding Spanish life a very steep learning curve. Who knew fried sparrow was a delicacy? And Alan's first hunting trip is not a completely successful expedition, but a very funny one.

 Eventually the Cuthbertson family finds the house and village of their dreams, but this is just the beginning of their adventures in Spain...

Alan Cuthbertson and his family decided to sell the family stationery business, pack up their lives, and move from England to Spain for Alan's retirement. When they first arrived in Spain, Alan used to update friends and family via e-mail. He kept them updated on all the twists and turns their new life was taking. If he ever missed a week, he would be inundated with e-mails asking where the next installment was. When one of the family's friends was visiting, he suggested collating the e-mails and producing a book. So with a bit more detail about the decision process, ‘Fiestas and Siestas Miles Apart' was born. Alan and his wife, Heather, live in Ventorros De La Laguna, Granada, Spain.
