I work mostly at the East Doors, smiling and greeting people ...... and sometimes I do cashier.... and I really do love to work with the public. But not today. Today, I was with my family at home for the better part of the morning and didn't have to report into work until later this evening.... and so, I didn't see this terrible and extremely sickining article about a woman who was killed at a Long Island Walmart until a short while ago, when I got home. I can't even get my head around people being so compeletly psychotic over saving a few bucks. Is that what this economic situation has done to all of us?!? Or is it just us?..... I wonder.....
This wasn't the first, I've had to work several Black Fridays in the past. I have to work part time around my husband's schedule, I work weekends and evenings to help out. I work around him so our kids aren't in daycare and because we aren't making it on just his salary. I HAVE to work, otherwise I wouldn't be out in that mess. I remember years ago, when I was younger, what an enormous deal it was to have a Cabbage Patch Kid one Christmas. It always stuck with me how ridiculous people got trying to get a doll for their kids that Christmas. I recall hearing how people were violent with each other. I was too young to recall or even realize what our economic state was at the time, but that all of that aside,...or with the lack of funds or whatever, people hurt one another to obtain an object to go under their Christmas tree.
I've always avoided the rush of Black Friday until I had to work them. My parents never liked a bunch of crowds so we never did it as a family and thus, I wasn't brought up with any desire to deal with that circus. My mother in law loves the new sales every year and doesn't miss it with her sisters, they all make a day of it. I can and I try to see both sides. But I must say, I have witnessed certain customers that weren't enjoying themselves with the season and were just angry, rude and pushy.... and I couldn't help but wonder why they were even out so early ....or why they had bothered if they were so miserable?
And so I stop and think, ....is the "Black" in this Friday in us and what we are becoming? Its gloomy and cantankerous, and nothing of what Christmas is supposed to be, ...whether your religious or not!!!! Where is the joy? Where is the excitement and kindness that comes with this wondrous time of year? I get that the name Black Friday came from the dreaded fear of all the crowds and lines one would have to deal with to get to that glorious sale price,... but its honestly {from this minimum wage worker's point of view} has turned into something worse.... and I feel now its more like Bleak Friday; bare and desolate for those who feel they must venture out,...

It is totally ridiculous what this season has come to. I read that people were stepping over this man who was trampled to death so that they could get to the sale items. People saw him lying there, but they cared more about getting a bargain than a person's life! I also read that after the man was declared dead, and police were trying to clear the store, customers were still refusing to leave stating that they had been in line all night. I thought this was the season of love, kindness and peace? It's completely absurd! There is nothing in the world that is more valuable than a human life. It's too bad that people seem to have forgotten that, especially at this time of year.
Such a tragedy. And for what? A good deal on gifts. What is this world coming to?
it is bad when somone dies and no one stops to notice we were glad we were at home that poor man trampled when maybe the turn stiles should come back make things single file !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in a toys R us two people died we are in need of pray peoples
Black Friday was miserable. I work for AutoZone, which isn't a store that you'd really associate with Black Friday, but we're in a strip mall with a Big Lots and a K-Mart, both of which had big black friday sales. Near as I can tell, all the wives/girlfriends/so's wanted to hit the sales and the men didn't, so they call came to my store. And everyone was NASTY. I mean, I get some people who just have nasty attitudes on a daily basis, but I think someone handed out bad attitudes at the door on Friday.
You are so right my friend! I can't believe how some people act.. and what.. just to save a few dollars! I will never understand it!
actually black friday was namesdthat because it it the day of the year that most stores go into the black and out of the red...basically thats the day the stores start making a profit...but killing ppl over it is stupid
