Here is a list of ES-reviewed online resources available to use.   They are listed as the “top 10” for each subject. You can also find them listed on our school website, under Empowering Parents Learning Resources Online Resources  (organized by subject).

History

Language Arts:
-This site is created by Sylivan.   It provides book lists by grade levels, quizzes, and prizes when a quiz is passed.  Student will have to have login information to track prizes.  @ www.bookadventure.org
-This is an approved vendor.  This is a great site to assess your student to find the accurate reading fluency level for your student.  It also provides online books, phonic activities and is kid friendly @ http://www.readinga-z.com/
-www.starfall.com  Starfall is a good resource for young students.  There is a “Learning to Read” section that uses introductory phonics to teach reading.  The site also includes games and activities.  The section for older students has a list of online stories, comics, plays, fables, myths, and folk tales.  It is a fun way to encourage independent reading.
-www.storyit.com Includes a variety of picture and story prompts for writing.  There are also stories on the site to read and explore.  This site is most appropriate for younger students (K-3).
-Dr. Seuss  includes information, activities, links, etc. @ www.randomhouse.com/seussville

Math
-Distance learning is available for ALL students 3-12th grade through ALEKS math.  It uses interactive tutoring, assessments, and pie charts giving learning modes, immediate feedback, review and worksheets.  It provides detailed reports for the ES to help monitor areas of strength and weakness.  Please let your ES know if you are interested in using this awesome resource for Math!  Ask your ES how to sign your student up for ALEKS math, there is a small annual fee.

-This is a great way for students to experience a virtual dinosaur dig and play educational dinosaur games.  @ www.nmnh.si.edu/paleo/dinosaurs

-www.studystack.com  This is a comprehensive website full of facts, vocabulary, formulas, instruction, and information.  Subjects covered include all levels of Math, Science, History, and Geography.  There are also categories for Medicine, Languages, Accounting, Computers, Cooking, Commerce, Sports, and various novel studies.  The Languages section contains a comprehensive list of a variety of languages.  Spanish, French, Hebrew, German, Latin, Czech, Russian, Indonesian, and Korean are just a sample of the languages listed.  The intended use of the information is for study and practice rather than an introduction to material.  The information can be practiced in the form of online flashcards, crossword puzzles, a study stack, a study table, matching, hangman, or a word search.  Parents must first review content.  Anyone is able to post on this site so sometimes people will post something irrelevant or inappropriate.  However! , the webmaster cleans the site often.  Also, religious material is posted in the Religion section.
