So, I am wondering if this is true or not.  I received the following forward from my s-i-l.  It lists a  whole lot of major retailers who are closing stores after Christmas and some that are going completely out of business, yet are still selling gift cards that won't be worth anything as of January 1.  Very troubling, because I know many of our family members will be sending us giftcards since our entire family is in MI/IN and we now live in WI and won't be traveling for the holidays.

*********************************

I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards  around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be  honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after  Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though  the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law  preventing them  from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankrupcy  Planning). Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be  cautious about.

The only one I've heard for sure is Linens N Things, but I don't doubt it for the rest. That's crap to keep on selling gift cards, just one more way to stick it to everyone.

I know I have seen Linens and Things and Circuit City, plus there is either an Office Depot or Office Max near us closing.

Kevin said that Home Depot and Lowes were both closing some stores across the country, which he is aware of since it is competition for Menards.  I guess it is good for us that Menards isn't needing to close any stores and we are still getting his bonuses.
