Back on Thanksgiving, I read an article in the local paper. It was about how 'downtown' here was going to have a parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus, reindeer, horse drawn carriage, train rides for the kids, and a few other things. The parade was supposed to start at 1pm and then the kids could get their pictures taken with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the reindeer just after. I thought it would be a great things to go to and the pictures would be extra special and it would take things off my mind for a while.

So, today, my sister came by and took us downtown. It was 2pm when we left the apartment. We drove the area it was all supposed to be at, but nothing was there. Not no road closings for the parade, no one was out at the streets - it was all as if nothing even happened. Devon was so excited to see Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the reindeer. Her eyes were dancing with glee. We looked, and looked, and looked - but saw nothing. Not a single thing. I felt so bad having to tell her that we somehow 'missed' it all and that she wouldn't get to see Santa, Mrs. Claus, or the reindeer.

Then, on our way back to the apartment, it crossed my mind that our local grocery store was having a Santa today. I just couldn't remember the time frame though. I asked my sister to stop by the store to see if we could catch Santa there. As soon as we walked in the doors, one of the ladies who worked there saw Devon and she immediately told us that 'he' was back in by the bread isle. I was so happy that we caught 'him'.

We got back there and Devon saw him. A HUGE smile went on her face and she went right up to him. She told him what she wanted for Christmas (a bicycle - bless her heart, she's wanted one for the longest time). Santa looked her straight in the eye and said, "I can't make any promises, but I'll see what I can do." Then he gave Devon a hug and told her to have a Merry Christmas.

Here are a couple pictures I got:

After we were done there, we stopped by to pick up my niece (my sister's oldest) since I agreed to watching her a few hours. Wile we were out in the car waiting on my sister and niece to come out, Devon got to talking.

"Mommy, that was the REAL Santa! He really was!" she said. "That other Santa must of had a mask on because he was not the real one. He must of been one of Santa's elves helping Santa out." It was just so cute how she went on about it.... But I loved the part where she was so happy that she got to see the 'real' Santa. It was priceless!
