I work for a large grocery/retailer temporarily for the holidays (I'm not going to mention the name of the place but you can probably figure it out as you read on) as a cashier. Now of course this place has the automated machines at the checkout line where you can slide your credit/debit card and not hand it off to the cashier. Well with it being the holiday season there has been an influx of credit card users ....and abusers. The home office sent out a memo saying that all cashiers before they push the credit card button MUST see the credit card and a valid photo ID. This is only to protect the customer, not to cause any undo hedaches. If the name on the card does not match the name and photo on the ID they cannot use it period. The only excption to this rule is if the credit card is stamped with refrence to a gift card in place of a name. Well of course there is always one who finds it an inconvienence to have to pull out their ID the use a credit card
Personally I'd prefer that anytime my cards are used that the cashier ask me for ID. This seems to be an inconvienence at the time but what happens when your card is stolen and used, this is an even bigger inconvienence. I know we are all in a hurry with Christmas coming up but just give it some thought, how would you feel if someone used your credit card and the cashier didn't check the name and your account was charged with thousands of dollars of merchandise you didn't authorize.
