Four years ago today, I was in the hospital at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC in labor with my son, Paul.

Due to my history with blood clots, I had been on blood thinners throughout the pregnancy. As you can imagine, my doctor did not want me to go into labor while I was still on the thinners. So, we planned for me to be induced (stopping the blood thinners 24-hours prior).

My water broke about 7:30 am that morning. After 16.5 of intense back labor (felt like he was going to come out  my back alien style), Paul was still at 0 station and I was still only 7 centimeters dialted... as had been the case for over three hours. So, they decided a c-section was the best course of action. I could not have been more relieved.

It was so surreal seeing him for the first time because I had been wondering if he would look more like me... or Michael... if he would have my curly hair... or what color his eyes would be.

Now, today he is four-years old... 42 pounds and 3 and a half feet tall.

He's the sweetest little boy you'd ever meet... literally. He hugs everybody. And he's very smart. If there's something he wants to do, he'll figure it out on his own... and quickly.

But, he does have his challenges. He is still struggling to commuicate. He speaks in mostly single words and short phrases, but he will use sentences to request. He also is behind in his motor planning. He just learned to jump and still struggles to peddle his trike.

As a parent, you are so busy... it is amazing how fast four years can be. I just can't believe it!
