You know that song from White Christmas where they're on the train on their way to Vermont and they're singing about snow?  I love that song...probably because I love the snow.

We live in central Iowa and yes, it does snow here.

We had our first snowfall this year the day after Thanksgiving.  It promptly melted away, but has since been replaced by the weekly powderings that pass through between December and April.  While we can't boast the amounts of snow that other parts of the country see regularly, we can safely say we are one of the states that gets a measurable yearly snowpack. ;-)

Snow amounts in Iowa vary greatly from year to year.  I remember years as a child when the snow drifts were as high as the grain bins.  And other years with green Christmases and barely any drifts at all.  Last year we got all our snow in February and March.  This year we're starting off a little early--which is nice because those 'green Christmases' in Iowa aren't green at all!  They're brown and gray and dreary.  Much nicer to have a little snow on the ground.
