Christian. That word, that name brings thoughts to people's minds: "great, here we go" or "crap, not one of those" or fill in your own.
It shouldn't be that way. Really it shouldn't. The funny thing is, I shouldn't have to tell anyone that I am a Christian. Why? Because we should be known by our fruit.....love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
I am not the judge of the sins of the world. I have enough sin in my own life to keep track of. I don't need to be pointing out others', trust me.
I am not better than anyone. We all have stuff in our lives, none is more sinful than the next.....a sin is a sin is a sin. (that is my belief)
It is not my place to tell you that your religion is "false". Your religion is a journey that you take personally.....as is mine.
I have my beliefs about politics, life, and the way my walk with God should go. But you may not share those same beliefs/views, and I am totally ok with that. Because, again, it is not my place to tell you otherwise.
If I live by the fruits that I mentioned above, then the rest of the "hot topics" would not be so "hot" would they? I am far from perfect. I fall short daily, hourly actually. But, if I make my daily goal to live by the fruits mentioned above.....I should not have to go into battle mode when people find out that I am indeed a Christian. They should be able to say, "my friend Beckie is a Christian." Period. With no other thoughts or walls up when those words are uttered.
Christian should not be a dirty word. It should bring with it hope of unconditional love...not cliche statements. It should bring with it comfort and not defense because something you believe in, or the way you live is different than mine. It should be a good testimony to the person I so want to be.
Christians......I know so many wonderful ones. It is a shame that they are not the ones that people think of when they hear the name/label "Christian".
My goal is to live in a way that I can daily cultivate as much and as many of the fruits mentioned above.........
Comments:
A Christian should be "Christ like" IMO. Nothing else matters. Thanks for the post sweetheart. Love ya!
You make a great point Becky...there are too many "sweeping generalizations" being made lately in journals and their respective responses....it's so much more pleasant, meaningful and educational when we can have intelligent discussions and debates about things we don't agree on - everyone learns in those cases and that's what I think it's about....thanks for writing this
My friend Beckie is a Christian!!! So are my friends Mikayla and Brie and Kim and Rebecca, and well this could be a long list!
dag57 I totally agree with you!! Thank you.....
