What a weekend. DH and DS went to dress rehearsal from 10-12 on Saturday morning. Caleb was quite fussy. I wasn't feeling well at all. I felt like someone had sucked all the energy out of me. So I laid down with Caleb and slept. I cleaned a little bit but just could not do a whole lot. Caleb had been coughing for a day or two already on Saturday so I figured he had a minor cold. Well, Saturday night was quite hectic. He ran a fever Saturday afternoon into the night. DH went and got groceries for me because I wasn't feeling well. When he got home, I was asleep. I decided not to take Caleb to church on Sunday morning. I stayed home and Caleb was very sick by then. He would not let me put him down. Finally I was able to get him to sleep about 11:30 and I went and jumped in the shower. By the time I got out, DH called and said him and the big kids were on their way home. I hurridly put on lunch. By Sunday night, Caleb was really really sick. His eyes were puffy and he was to the point of coughing and not being able to catch his breath. I asked a nurse friend of mine if she thought it may be bronchitis I told her what was wrong with him and she told me yes. Sunday night was pretty much sleepless for me. I was scared Caleb was not going to be able to catch his breath after a coughing fit. His pediatrician had told me not to give him anything OTC for a cold, cough, and congestion. Just nose drops. Well that certainly did not help the cough. We got up Monday morning, got the kids ready for school. I got Caleb ready to go to the doctor. Dr. Reddy wanted to put him in the hospital but I talked him out of it. I asked him what they could do that I couldn't do at home. He told me that all they would do is give him IV fluids, take blood work, and give him breathing treatments. I discussed with him at length why he would need bloodwork or IV fluids. This is just hospital protocol for an admission in which I wasn't willing to put my child through.
It's a LOT of work to juggle two bigger kids and a very sick baby however, I am doing and will continue until Caleb gets well. The hospital is the last place he needs to be.
Caleb is doing better this morning. We got a bit more sleep last night. His wheezing is a little bit better. He still wiggles like crazy while giving him his breathing treatment but I've figured out I can put him in his carseat and he pretty much can't wiggle. LOL! At least he can't wiggle out of it.
Please say a prayer for Caleb and I. We're getting through this with some minor stress. I know this will pass and he will be well soon. I just can't stand for him to be sick like this. My older two never had anything like this.
Comments:
I'll def be praying for you and Caleb! Justin had RSV about this time last year. So, we did the breathing treatments and all that too. If Caleb takes a paci you may check with the pharmacy (or whoever you got the nebulizer from) and see if they have the paci attachment for the nebulizer. That was totally a lifesave for us! He puts the paci in his mouth and the medicine comes out a hole in the top and goes right into his nose. Thank goodness you got to keep him home. I did with Justin as well and all worked out fine!
