Being the 41 year old grandmother of a 10 month old, I don't understand how this issue has gone so unrecognized.  I created a poll just to see the response I would get, as to the number of pregnant teens, teen moms, or young adults who began as teen moms people knew.  Do you realize that so far, 75% know 3 or more teen moms.  The percentage for knowing 1 or no teen moms was in the single digit percentages.  Knowing 2 teen moms was 12%. 75% know 3 or more teen moms.  That includes older moms who had their children in their teens.

I have chosen to help teen moms and young adults who began as teen moms.  I feel that with support and education, our newer generation of young moms will be able to continue their education, have a support group to meet other young moms they have things in common with, and have direction to help them persue their goals and dreams.  I also believe that the children who are born to teen moms that participate in programs such as these, will go through less stress due to the education, support and friendships they develop.  Check out www.TeenMomsFriendsClub.org.  A non-profit dedcated to the education and support of teen and young moms.

i know at least 5 young women who have had children before or shortly after they turned 20. this is not including myself. i believe teenage parenthood is pushed to the back burner because people still consider it to be a taboo subject and don't feel it can be solved easily. i actually wrote a paper for my sociology class on how/why teenage pregnancy is a social problem.
