I created this journal as a bit of an experiment.  I wanted to toss up a dramatic title to see which direction this would go.  Interestingly enough, it got pretty dramatic outside of this post.  It just goes to show that if set out looking for trouble, you will find it.  And that was the point.  I proved my hypothesis.  Now, back to flimsier, more light hearted topics!

If this doesn't apply to you, move on or applaud  If it does, then READ UP because you have a disgusting habit.

Public restrooms.  When you're out and about, using them is inevitable.  You put your hand on the door to pull it open.  You put your hand on the stall door to open it.  You put your hand on the knob to lock it.  You use your hand to wipe.  You put your hand on the handle to flush the toilet.  Micro-particles of what is in the bowl when you flush enter the air.  Then you put your hand and the knob to unlock the door and push it open.

Then, how many of you go to the sink?  How many walk right out the door?  I see SO many (most, actually) just go to the sink, touch the faucet lever with their hands, run the water over their hands for, maybe, 10 seconds.  Then they use their hand to pump out some paper towel, dry off and put their hand on the bathroom door to push it open and leave.

If that's you, you are a DISGUSTING individual when it comes to general hygiene.  The proper way to wash your hands is to run them under warm water, add soap and lather for 30 seconds and then rinse for another few seconds.  Is that TOO MUCH TO ASK?  Because let me tell you, I touch NOTHING in the bathroom with my hands because it's disgusting enough without you nasty, non-hand-washing women out there.

E-coli, salmonela, rotovirus, flu....the list continues.  I don't want your germs, to wash them off and keep them to yourself!

I"m kinda OCD. I not only wash my own hands but when after I'm done washing them I always add a little soap and water to the paper towels I used to dry them and use it to clean up the countertops.

Kristi: ME TOO!!! Dude, we're crazy.

OP: like you, I see sooo many women just walk right past the sink and out the door.  The ones that just kinda wet their hands under the water for 10 seconds might as well just walked right out, too.  The saddest thing: when the kids are with them.  Those are the same non-hygienic habits they are passing on.  And before anyone asks why do you care or why does it matter: it does matter.  Simple colds/flu can be prevented by simply washing your hands thoroughly with soap!

OK, end rant!

=o)

I try not to touch ANYTHING in those restrooms and I by pass the sink all together....I have sanitizer in my purse that I put on as soon as I leave the restroom before touching anything else.  There are plenty of ladies who make faces at me because when I take the girls in I am constantly saying DON"T TOUCH ANYTHING and then on the way out saitizing their hands...but oh well!

my hands are paying the price for my OCD of constant handwashing....I completely understand, after I wash in public bathrooms I use a towel to turn off the faucet and open the door....this is why all bathrooms should go hands free, and the door to get out you should be able to push, not touch a handle...ewwww!!!

That's still just as gross... So instead of washing the germs down the sink, you just let them die and dry on your hands? What if you got poo or pee on them from some dripping action when you went to wipe? Plus, not all germs are killed by hand sanitizer... GAG!

How about wash as much off as possible then use the hand sanitizer?... YUCK!

I still wash my hands the same way I did when I was doing my licensing for daycare years ago...

pull down the paper towel, then wash your hands... dry them with the towel and use the towel to shut off the water and open the door...

I'll go a step further...where do you put your purse while you are in there?  What gets picked up on the bottoms of your shoes?  When is the last time you, without thinking, touched the soles of your shoes?  Have you ever seen a small child exploring his/her parent's shoes?  GAGGGGGG

I try not to think about it.

Ohhh...here's one more...where do you store your own toothbrush?  Is it in a cabinet or out in the open?  How many feet from the toilet is your toothbrush holder?

Good thing we have immunities!

YUUUUUCK

(Great post, BTW)

I use my foot to push the door open and never touch the seat and never flush with my hand.....to open the door I use a paper towel (if there isn't one available I will use my shirt)...sorry if I offend you.

Hand-sanitizer, here.  It's disgusting to touch the sinks in those restrooms.  So, you're the hygeine loser!
