What has this world come to that we have to now protect our children from getting an education? Cafe Mom's how do you feel?

I never thought I would have to educate my kids on safety in the classroom but I do. Both of my children carry a cellphone simply because I want them to keep me informed. The Virgina tragedy is just one of the many school incedents that happens in this Country everyday. How as mothers can we protect the very people we love from their own schools. Since when did getting an education become so deadly? I feel so sorry for all of those people who died and the parents who will be grieving for a lifetime wondering how did this happen. Please I encourage all Moms to educate their kids on what to do if this happened in their school. I tell my children religiously how to protect themselves as I never thought the world would come to this. Do you all have an opinion or some techniques to share with other concerned mothers?

I tell my kids to keep their cell phones with them in case of an emergency.

To hide or find cover if they see anyone with a gun.

I have also told them not to get mixed up with those involved.

yeah i was just thinking yesterday when i watched that even though it was a college it COULD very well happen at katrinas school and its scary.

i think those are good ideas.....just one more argument in favor of home schooling!!!!

mommaoxie.....she also used the tags "fun" and "joke" and a couple others it doesn't really fit into either but i'm sure it was probably to reach as many as she can......some moms search for posts by what tags are put on them.....that way her post will come up with each search

I told my kids that if they hear what might be a gunshot to take cover. DO NOT go looking to see what the noise was or step outside to see where it is coming from. If the school does not go on lock down, put themselves in lockdown!! Hide in a closet, under a desk, behind whatever they can. I went to school in Rockdale County where they had a school shooting at Heritage High a few yrs back. Thank God no one was killed but several students did get shot. The only reason they are still here is b/c the shooter had bad aim!!! It is unbelievable that anyone feels the need to take out others as they leave this world. If you don't want to be here, take out yourself not innocent ppl who want to live. I don't know what else to tell my kids!!!! How do you prepare them for a shooter that they may be sitting beside when they go balistic?? I also told them to be nice to everyone, you never know who's gonna snap.

I think that is the most important thing. Teach kids safety and to love everyone equally. Today's kids are way to judgemental of each other and teachers are too outnumbered to catch all the teasing. It has got to stop.

JUST VERY SAD! I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN AND MY KIDS SCHOOL DOESNT HAVE NO MORE THAN 350 KIDS, BUT I KNOW THIS COULD STILL HAPPEN.....THE SCHOOL NOW IS TEACHING THEM WAHT TO DO IF TERRORIST ATTACKED.(THAT ABOUT FLOORED ME) BUT IT IS NECCESSARY. I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT HOME SCHOOL BUT FEEL THAT THIS IS MY KIDS WORLD TOO AND THEY HAVE TO ADAPT TO WHAT IS GOING ON JUST AS WE HAD TO AND OUR PARENTS HAD TO AND SO. THINGS CHANGE WITH EVERY GENERATION BUT ALL WE CAN DO IS GIVE OUR CHILDREN GOOD VALUES AND MORALS TO HOPE THAT THEY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

My daughter is still really young, but it's something that worries me, I like the idea of playing dead, and having your kids have cell phones.

It is crazy! If this is going on now what is the future going to hold? My daughter is 14 months old, I can't imagine what the world will be like when she is in high school and college!
