I had a feeling this was coming. Roo hasn't been nursing to sleep anymore except very rarely. She nurses and then stops and says "night night" and climbs into bed. Early sign of weaning. Sometimes when I ask if she wants to nurse she says no...usually says no but then soon after wants to nurse.

She just asked to go down for her nap and we went upstairs. She climbed into bed (with her new cabbage patch doll "Baby Jojo" and laid down. I said "Don't you want nu nu?" and she said "No. Night night" and closed her eyes.

First time EVER she didn't want to nurse before going to sleep AT ALL.

This is it...she's definately starting to wean. I cried. I know that this is just the beginning and weaning takes a long time...but I'm not ready! I am at the same time though.

It hasn't been an easy last 18.5 months with nursing and we've hit all of the common "stumbling blocks" and a lot of the uncommon ones. We've pushed through all of them and I've never given up. I'm really proud of myself and SO very thankful for everyone along the way who has helped me! People have given me the herbs and tinctures I needed when my supply was low, people have donated milk when I just couldn't pump enough at work. People have encouraged me through the rough times and people here and on LJ have talked me through the pumping marathon nights when I didn't have enough to get her through the next day with me at work.

I hope that she'll continue for at least another 6 months and I don't doubt that she will. She nurses so often still that skipping it now and then isn't close to being done. I also don't doubt that she WILL still nurse before sleeping sometimes, just not all the time anymore.

I'm so proud of her and how big she's gotten. She's such a happy, healthy and emotionally secure girl and she'll always know that Momma is here and as long as she wants to nurse I'm ready and willing.
