My oldest who is nine is wanting to be an Entrepreneur. For Christmas, she received a headband kit, a jewelry kit and a scrapbooking kit.

This afternoon, she told me that she wants to start a business making and selling hand-crafted/designed headbands, bracelets and belts.

So, Scott and I talked it over. As she needs them, we will buy her supplies to make designer belts, bracelets and headbands. She will have up until Spring to get them all made up.

Although, she will have to save out at least three or four of her creations from each group, as a sample of her products to prospective customers.

The other "merchandise", she wants to sell at our Spring and Summer yard sales that we have. From there, are endless possibilities.

In fact, she told me that she wants me to be her "manager", being that she is under age. Her dream is to open a shop and sell her things. As well as take specialty orders and make them for those who want a certain look.

For now, I told her that she can sell the belts for $5, the bracelets for $3 and the headbands for $2...

When (and if) the demand  for her designer merchandise go up, so will her prices. This way, she can have enough profit to keep for herself, as well as to use for buying the things she needs to make her products.

Who knew that my nine year old daughter would find her life's passion so early? And she knows that this cannot be a "fad" idea. That if this is REALLY what she wants to do as her "dream career" then my husband and I will fully support her and financially help her to the best of our ability.

Yes, my young daughter who is soon heading in to "tween-hood" is a fashionista!

That is AWESOME! That's great that you are encouraging and helping her!

Mine want to be Robotic Engineers (that own their company designing and building robotics)- the best we can do right now is Lego Mindstorm Projects and keeping up with what's going on in the Robotic World.

Now...how am I supposed to "manage"? She said she wants me to be her Manager, being that she is too young to run a business.

We told her that first, she can sell at the yard sales. And even take specialty orders from cutomers. Plus, as she is sitting there, she can make more of her handy crafts to let prospective buyers see her in action.

Depending on how the yard sales go, I guess we will go from there. I have always said that the child can make something out of nothing.

Even a piece of cardboard looks spectacular after she fools with it!

You can get beads and a lot of craft supplies on EBay that are far cheaper than paying retail at Ben Franklin or Michaels.  Once you figure out how much she needs for each item,  then you can decide how much to actually charge for her work.    Doing handcrafted items is very time consuming and her time should be worth something!

Love & Hugs to Hayley for being so industrious!  Big Kudos to Mom and Dad for their support  !!  clapping

frankiesmom125, well, you are "customer" #2 then...Sherrie said she would like to buy from her as soon as she has some product done up.

Also, she is willing to take specialty orders. Just give her what pattern design you want (heart, retro, polka dots, sparkles, ect.), what product(s) (bracelet, headband or belt), and the color scheme(s) you would like to have...

Then we will help her get right at or as close as possible to what your liking is. Of course, we would contact you and let you know of any changes to the order before she starts making your order.
