What an awful way to ring in 2009. It turns out that Viacom has been trying to negotiate what it claims is a "fair" renewal of its prized cable channels for months and months, but reputedly Time Warner has been unresponsive and "unreasonable". So now the fight between the two Big Media giants will hurt cable viewers. What the hell? At 12:01 AM on January 1st, just after the ball drops in Time Square, gazillions of Time Warner Cable subscribers will lose 19 Viacom channels.

this includes noggin. so no more yo gabba gabba or any of those wonderful shows our toddlers  love so much. no more nick which means no more spongebob and no more dora. this whole thing is outrageous! if you are a TW subscriber you need to call TODAY and complain so we don't lose these channels. it also means no more comedy central for us and that is just not funny.

I really believe they will work this out and it will of course cost us more.  To be honest, a few days without Sponge Bob would not hurt my brain at all. . .

It's Bright House Networks too.  It sucks.  My son LOVES Yo Gabba Gabba AND Spongebob.  Nick is pretty much the whole reason we have cable.

We have lost  ABC due to un-reasonable contract demands on our Dish Network Satellite. Now we are going to lose this. What is going on? Not to be a Doomsayer, but does anyone think this has to do with the economy?

That's terrible. We don't have cable, but I would hate to loose Comedy Central or Nick! :(

Cable and internet, the only two luxuries we have. I love playing along with my boys to Dora, we have so many giggles.

I really hope my bill goes down if this agreement doesn't work out.

Oh in fact, Nick is starting a new cartoon series this month about Olivia. That cute little pig. I was actually looking forward to that. I know, I watch to much tv. :P

I think both sides are being ridiculous.  If it is true that Viacom took out full page ads with Dora and spongebob I wonder how much time and money they spent.  I went to viacoms website

www.viacom.com and let them have it.  I feel there threat to pull their programming is being a bit of a bully.  Its like they are saying do what we want or else.  Both sides have a responsibility to us the consumer to sit down and not get up until this can be resolved.  I'm going to email Time Warner now since their phone lines are tied up.

Dec. 31, 2008 at 6:01 PM I just heard about this a little while ago, when a ticker ran across the bottom of my screen on Spike...another channel set to be cut. My kids are going to wig out when they can't find their Nickolodean! One is going to be especially upset at Comedy Central being cut (I'm actually kind of happy about that one!) and I know many who will be upset at the loss of MTV and VH1. Is there anything that can truly be done? I hate being used as a pawn in the negotiations. I wonder if I cancel my cable all together and go for Dish Network if that would be a viable alternative... anyone have Dish who can enlighten me?
