Last year, I said I was going to lose 30 lbs.  Well, I lost 22.  That's pretty cool.  Towards the end of the year, I felt like a big blob again, instead of someone that is 20+ lbs lighter than they used to be.  THEREFORE, my resolution for THIS year is to lose15 lbs.  That should be easy, right?  My hubby bought me an expensive gym membership and I'm so excited to use it.  There is a problem, though.  I had planned to have a baby this year.  I want to get little, but I also want to have a child.  I keep wondering if it's ok to lose weight while you're pregnant, even if you're already overweight.  I mean, I'm not FAT, but I'm chubby.  I am barely under the 150 mark.  I was 135 when I got married, got down to 121 when my husband went to Iraq and all I want to do is get back to 135.  Will doctors say I'm irresponsible if I lose weight while pregnant?  It's not like I plan to starve myself or my child.  I just don't want to chow down at every Mexican restaurant I run across like I did last time.  I weighed almost 200 when I was 9 months pregnant.  If anyone has opinions about losing weight while pregnant, let me know.  Any doctors out there?  Well, Happy New Year!

Yea, you aren't supposed to lose weight while PG.  You need to do it before or just wait.  You starve the baby of nutrients if you lose weight while pregnant.

However... you don't have to gorge either.  Don't allow yourself to eat any fast food or eat out at all and just add a few extra calories per day from things you can make at home and you'll find you don't gain as much!

I totally know what you mean though.  I am just now getting back to my "fighting weight" and the thought of getting pregnant again and gaining weight again is enough to make me not want but one kid!!

I actually lost weight during my last 2 pregnancies (although i have since gained it back plus some).  When not pregnant, my eating habits were terrible...tons of pop, tons of eating out and fatty foods.  When I was pregant, I was VERY cautious what I put in my body.  All pop and sweets disappeared from my diet.  I was all about fresh fruits and vegetables, home cooked meals ect...  I walked every day (not like a crazy woman, just enough to keep me energized and my metabolism up)  Anywho, I was 10lbs lighter with my last 2 munchkins at a full 9 months pregnant.  My doctor at first showed concern BUT when he kept up with my diet, he agreed that I was just making better choices.  Everyones body is different, there is a healthy way of losing weight when pregnant though.  Just talk to your doctor about it.

Congrats on losing the weight you did,Its hard for us women to lose weight.

Since you have a gym membership and want to have a baby as well as lose weight, I would only suggest using the gym as excersice, loke the yoga classed or ones that are permitted while preggo. Who says you cant try and stay fit while you are preggo. If I had another baby,I would totally try to work out when i could to stay fit while pregnant.

I was exactly like you and weighed almost 200 pounds when i delivered, now i am at 125lbs and it has been so hard for me to lose 5 pounds.

Good luck,

~Heather

Jan. 5, 2009 at 10:28 AM I mean, I'm not looking to starve myself when/if I get pg. I just want to lose the bad fat. i'll probably wait a few months before we even try, so mybe i'll lose what I need to and then try.
