Musings Of The Somewhat Insane

Oh my gosh. I never thought it would be THIS hard to wean Alice from falling asleep with milk in her sippy cup. I stupidly considered letting her go cold turkey and just removing the sippy cup altogether. Then I got the bright idea to put water in the cup instead of moo juice.

HA. I might as well have just taken the sippy cup away completely. She took one drink and said, "Me no like it. Want milk." I told her no, she threw a mighty fit and didn't let Clint & I do the normal night-time routine (which involves fist pounds, tickles, high fives and hugs. Yes, very exciting.) That was at 8:30.

It's 9:12 and she's only just starting to quiet down. This after numerous visits from me, instructing her that she would not be getting milk. That big girls don't need milk. That I don't drink milk before I go to bed. Only babies do. Are you a baby? Nooooo.

At one point, the cat got super concerned and had to sneak into Alice's room to see what all the crying was about. This prompted me to remove her...which prompted Alice to cry even more. Yikes. Why did I let it go this long? I should've weaned her when she was a year old. Not two.

During my final bedroom visit, I explained to Alice that I was tired and wanted to lay down. I told her I didn't want her crying and waking me up. She said something to the effect of, "Me no cry and get you up." She's been silent for a whole *drumroll* 3 minutes!!

Boy, I am certainly looking forward to this phase being over and her falling asleep without needing any sort of liquid to lull her into la-la land.

I feel your pain.  I am sorry your going through this but in about a month it will all be just a memory.  She will get over not having her milk.   try letting her have her milk before the bedtime routine and explain that this is when we have our milk now.   Hugs I wish you the best.

I do the same with both of my kids they each go to sleep with milk in their sippies. Why are you trying to stop it? Just curious.

It isn't that I don't approve of other people doing this - if it works for you and your kids, cool! But Alice has multiple problems that I think are linked to her consuming so much milk (first when she falls asleep and then a few times during the night.) If she drinks too much, she gets the runs. She wets the bed quite a bit (if she doesn't like water, she won't drink as much of it, hence won't wet the bed so much.) Truthfully, I'm STILL working on it. Blaaah.
