I firmly believe that EVERY parent should take a basic 1st aid and CPR class. I will be the first to admit that I don't know everything, but isn't this common sense? What if, God forbid, their child isn't breathing or something like that? By the time they call 911 and wait for the EMT's to get there, it's probably too late. Or something just basic like a sprained ankle. I just read a post asking what to do with a sprained ankle and that she's been having her 4 yr old DD (who has the injured ankle) walk on it in hopes that it will get better. Seriously? I guess I'm just venting a little, but am I wrong for believing this?

I agree. I was required to take CPR and general first aid in highschool. Plus I've read up on what to do if my baby is choking or not breathing. I still feel nervous that I wouldn't be able to save her if something did happen, but at least I know the basics.
I don't think just parent should take this class, I think EVERYBODY should take this class. It should be something offered in highschool to physical education or health classes. Everyone can benifit from knowing first aid or cpr.

No, You are right, it should be taught to every mother and father before they leave the hospital. One of my daughters was in the NICU for 2 weeks when she was born, and we did have to take an infant CPR class before we could take her home. I don't know if that was standard for everyone in there or if we had to because she was being sent home on oxygen.
