PORT ANGELES, Wash. - A 16-year-old girl suspected of drowning an infant boy in a toilet and throwing the body in the trash was charged with murder Wednesday.
Lauryn Louise Last, of Port Angeles, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the death of the infant believed to be her son.
Last remained jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail with arraignment scheduled Friday. She faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Last's attorney, Suzanne Hayden of the Clallam County public defender's office, did not immediately return a phone call Wednesday.
The baby's body was found Monday by authorities combing 60 tons of trash at a dump site near Tacoma.
An affidavit filed that day said Last "put her baby face down into a toilet and allowed it to drown for several minutes until it died. Then she threw her son into the trash can outside in a plastic garbage bag."
Port Angeles police Chief Terry Gallagher had said that DNA testing to confirm the infant's parentage might not be available for a month or more.
Prosecutors said Last's father, Ronald Last Jr., 41, was charged Monday with possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies, and with concealing a birth, a gross misdemeanor. He remained in the Clallam County jail.
Investigators in Port Angeles, about 65 miles northwest of Seattle, believe the baby boy died after being born to the girl on or about Dec. 31, and then was put in the trash.
I'm sick in my heart. I'll never understand why women would rather murder their child than place them for adoption. I'm just sick...

That is disgusting....dont these girls know that you can take your baby to a hospitalor firestation if you cannot care for him/her?This whole situation could of been avoided. Now due to one choice she made her life is over...
Why? Why? Why? Why would someone do that! That is sick and makes me sick! I can't even imagine doing something like that. What a sick mind.
In my town, we had a girl who was hiding her pregnancy and she went into labor at her PROM! She went into the stall, gave birth without anyone hearing her. I can't remember how she killed the baby, but she did toss it into the trash. Well... obviously, she was found out by the amount of blood and everything and now she's in jail for a long, long time.
We just recently had another case from a college around here where the girl killed her newborn after giving birth. It happens more than we realize.
These girls are in denial and when they have to face reality and the baby is born, they panic and just want to get rid of it. It's selfish...
Times like this what can you say? Sick, selfish, no excuse for it. That irl knew exactly what she was doing. It is murder!!
That just makes me really sad. For both lives lost. That the girl did that, for whatever reason, clearly she has serious issues. Why doesn't matter, I guess, given what she did, but that she did it makes me sad for her. And her poor infant, lost before he even had a real chance.
Maybe she deserves our outrage, disgust, and animosity, but that girl was someone's daughter, too. I cannot imagine what circumstances drove her to do that. It may just be that she is simply evil in her heart, and that's that... but maybe somewhere, someone failed that kid.
Her poor son. I hope, at least, that it was swift and that he did not suffer under her hands for long. What a horrible thing for him.
There is so much sadness in the world... sometimes, it breaks my heart.
How sad. :o(
I cannot imagine what the mother of that girl is going through right now.
WHERE WERE HER PARENTS IN ALL OF THIS, A COUNSLER,SOMEONE OUT THERE WERE THEY PAYING ANY OF ATTENTION.AS A SOCIETY WE TEND TO TURN A BLINDS EYE CUZ ITS NOT CONSIDERED UGLY OR ASTIGMA,ITA AWAY OF LIFE.
Thsi girl has a myspace account and as of Jan 1 her mood was chill. This is sick and my stomach turn. Thinking of how badly I want another child.
