As some of you already know....I homeschool my children. I have found the experience enlightening, invigorating, exasperating and sometimes completely exhausting....but never without rewards!
Watching both of my sons learn and grow has been a gift. I did not go into 'teaching' as a choice. It was a mission. I found our public school system to be sub-standard.
Not all public schools are created equally...some are good. Ours is not and frankly...they don't care!
I did care! sooo I entered the wonderful world of homeschooling.
In my quest to seek out information on education, I have come across many sites and sources that others may also find helpful.
We, as mothers, are the child's first instructors. We teach them from the moment of birth and it will probably continue until the moment of our last breath. It is a blessing and sometimes can be a curse! LOL
I have not only taught my children, but learned right alone side of them. I guess, I am catching up on the lessons that I missed in school. LOL It is never too late. If you wake up in the morning...Then there is still time to learn.
Many adults today cannot read. Those who do, don't often read for enjoyment. I recently read an article that in the year 2007 only 10% of Americans read a book within that year.
Shocking?
I found this statistic both sad and scary. We need to read to learn and continue to grow. We need education in this country, now more than ever.
Before it's too late...and I get on my soap box about low education = low income, let me share this resource with my fellow moms.

This is just one site that offers much advice and helpful resources for children and adults in the quest to read.
When I was a child reading took me wherever I wanted to go. It was an adventure. How sad it is to think that many children will never know this pleasure. How sad it is to think that many adults struggle with reading and writing. Even in the age of the internet...illiteracy is not extinct. Sadly.
Many people have exchanged correct reading and writing with a version of abbreviations and terms that barely make any sense at all. For some it is just a quick way to communicate, but for others it is a way of life.
This isn't meant to judge....only to inform and hopefully lend a hand to someone who is seeking knowledge.
Knowledge is power!
Comments:
