Last night all of a sudden about 11pm Wesley woke up grasping for Air he could not breathe well at all it scared me to death. We scooped him up and rushed him to children's hospital.

We did not have to wait at all they got us right back and the doctor came in really soon. The said it was Strider which is the bad part of the croup. They gave him some steroids and a breathing treatment. After the breathing treatment he was much better but we had to stay for 4 hours until the breathing treatment wore off to make sure he did not relapse.

The breathing treatment made him so hyper it was hard to keep him in the bed. The nurse gave him some coloring sheets and crayons and we turned on some cartoons which helped settle him down and he finally went to sleep. At 3:30 am they said he was OK to go home.

He was such a good boy at the hospital. He had never had a breathing treatment before. He just set there and left it on he did so good. He was so curious asking about all the hospital equipment. The doctor said he was so good she gave him some stickers.

He is doing much better today. He ran a fever this morning but it is gone now. I am so glad my baby is OK. i was so scared when he could not breathe. I don't know what I would if anything ever happened to my little boy.

The hospital said if it happens again to take him in the cool air and take him in a steamy bathroom and if those things do not work to bring him back. He got some steriods that last for 3 days which helps him fight it.

aw man that is scary, glad you caught it!! I used to be so afraid of not hearing my kids at night and worried Preston would ignore their cries, well one night he did ignore Dalton around 5am. When I went in to wake him around 8ish, he was laying in his own vomit!!! He said "I called you and you didnt come" man I gave his daddy a dirty look!! So now Preston gets up to see whats wrong or wakes me up since I cannot hear at night without my hearing aides. Glad to hear Wesley is better now and has the breathing treatments, Dalton didnt enjoy them so much but Annabeth took it all in stride LOL She had the RSV when she was a baby and Dalton had pneumonia so they both couldnt breathe right and it is so scary.

Just reading the first part made me feel frantic. Thank God he's ok. BTW I was about to send you a pm asking how things are on the homefront w/ you & DH- it's been forever since I've spent any quality time on this sight with friends.

I'm so glad Wesley is OK! And Momma is too!

The boys had croup when they were babies and I did the hot steamy bathroom - it worked well. They barked like loud dogs though. Gerry has allergies and epipen. He gets to coughing when his throat is swelling. Allergies run in our family so it's good you are on top of everything with Wesley and get him treatment right away. It can be scarey!

Oh gosh! I'd have had a heart attack too. I've had to do the Heimlich maneuver on each child so far - on my oldest twice! - and each time, I swear, their lives flashed before my eyes. As soon as you see your babies faces get that screwed up look, and their lips turn blue, OMG your heart just drops and you have no idea what is going to happen next.

I feel for you! And I'm so glad your baby boy is alright!
