Had hate being the bad guy but i dont like that word, so i decided to stretch my mental thesaurus.

My older son Nathaniel is in Kindergarten and I am just not sure how much or how little is TOO much/little when it comes to discipline.  I have never hid that I am not above spanking, but I just don't want it always to be about that, so i am always looking for new things.  In school, they have a stop light as a behavior system.  Every day, they color in their behavior (as per teacher) and a parent has to sign the sheet and send it back in the next day.  TWICE this week (when its only been 2-3x the rest of the YEAR) Nate has brought home a yellow light because he was running and screaming around the room.  Both are obviously school rules also.   Little Mr. Man apparently feels that, because he has a sub (Regular teacher has mtgs this week) and her classroom rules are different, he doesn't have to follow 'em.

Some of you might say that's (running and screaming) not too bad.  Some of you might think he's a little demon child.  To each his own.  I know that I raised him to behave better.  So when hubby told me, I called home and spoke with Nate.  I grounded him from his VSmile for a week AND gave him a writing assignment: "I will be good for every teacher." 25x.  AND he has to take it in to his regular teacher (i think she returns tomorrow.)

Whaddya think?  I'm open to suggestions.  I'm just not sure what to do.  I don't wanna be Nazi mom, but in the same respect, I work with "disadvantaged youth" which more often than not is kids with MAJOR attitude and discipline problems and I REFUSE to be one of those moms.  I don't want to spank him because I try to make the punishment fit the crime and he usually only gets corporal once he's REALLY pushed my limit or done something dangerous.  I'm not looking for a pro/con corporal punishment dissertation, just some input.  Thanks!

My parents always spanked us for everything...worst punishments were including a belt spanking. It kept us motivated time and time again until we were old enough to understand the why's and how's of it all. lol. Very creative, hope it works. Education is a big deal and deserves to be treated as such.
