Today has been like any other day.....my kids came home from school, the house went from calm and peaceful to a war zone. Yeah, a normal day.
A few hours pass by and my daughter was walking through the hallway. I noticed that she stopped and looked up at a picture she had drawn at school and won second place at the county fair. My first thought was that she was proud and admiring her work......yet she looked sad and disappointed. I asked her "What is it, Alissa? What's wrong?" She saidly spoke and told me she wished she could have done better and won 1st place. She then proceeded to tell me that her knuckle head teacher today told the entire class that winning second place is the first loser and the biggest loser! Way to go......let's boost these 8 year olds self esteem by telling them that! Let's turn our 8 year olds into aggressive, competitive little jerks!
I asked my daughter what she'd rather......win 2nd place or to not have placed at all. She said to have won second place.

I agree w/ princess1973 .... u gotta talk to him after that DUMB-ass remark! GOOD LUCK ![]()
Yeah... NOT cool!! I have an 8 year old son and that would DEF fire me up!!
I WOULD THE HELL NOT SPEAK TO NO TEACHER I WOULD GO STRAIGHT TO THE SUPERIENTENT OF THE SCHOOL AND HAVE HER OUT OF THE board can u imagine how humilated that poor child much have felt if she was laughed at by the class!!!!!!!!!!!
perhaps you should respond by writing the teacher a note that says "those who can't do, teach." damn. like everyone is as perfect as i am. pa-leese. (laughing and rolling eyes)
this is definitely the kind of remark that would have me fired up and then some.
i hope you told her daughter to remember how many people she did better than and then explained to her how art is in the eye of the beholder...and how most of them are blind. that is an awesome accomplishment. winning a country fair ribbon for her artwork. i hope she realizes this. and if i were you, i'd look into art lessons. you may have the next big artist on your hands. or even just a really great advertising exec.
kisses to her. i'll not mention what i'm sending to him.
Oh yes! I told my daughter how wonderful it was that she received 2nd place!! She feels better about the whole ordeal, but she was seriously crushed when it was happening. I just cannot believe that a teacher would say that to children!!! At 8 years old they are trying so hard to 'fit in' and find who they are.....their self-esteem can go from sky high to rock bottom in a matter of seconds.
Thanks ladies for you input. Miss Teacher better get her boxing gloves on today......cuz moma's gonna knock her out!

You've got to be kidding me! Why would someone inthat position tear down a kid's self esteem like that!? Are you going to say something?
