I get very tired of listening to interviews with celebrities (actors, singers, politicians, etc.) who are supposed to be very "together" yet can't string two words together without throwing in one of the following verbal pauses: "uh", "um", "like", and "you know". Very, very, very distracting and really makes whomever is speaking come across as verbally imcompetent!! As a speech communication major, this is a pet peeve of mine and one I strive to be aware of in my own speech and that of my family.

I know exactly what you mean!! Lol But I too have been guilty in this at one time or another. Sometimes I cringe when listening to my teen daughter talk to her friends...it's like they have a language all their own! But, for me-my pet peeve is mispelled words! No matter what I'm reading, the mispelled words just pop out at me! Grrrrr lol There's one word that I've heard spoken around here and when I first heard a former boss say this word, I was so shocked! How about "yuions"? OH it's like fingernails on a blackboard!!! lol You'll have to forgive me, but I'm just not sure how that's actually spelled!.
