Poll

Question: Fish Taco Toppings! If you get them where you live, what do they have on them. (I already am putting the avacado, tomatoes and scallions...its just the sauce and greenery I am not sure about).

Options:

Lettuce and sour cream

Cabbage and sour cream

Cabbage and some other sauce (comment)

Lettuce and some other sauce (comment)

Okay....no drama today. In fact not even terribly interesting...LOL.

I think with this cold weather I have been craving something summery. I cannot get the thought and taste of these amazing fish tacos I got in Saugatuck (Michigan) this summer out of my head (can't think of the name of the place, but if you've been there it is the little trailor type taco stand across from the marina, kind of diagonal to the chain ferry).

So, tonight we have fish tacos and black beans and rice for supper!

So, anyway, I was looking online at recipes to see if I am missing anything about what goes on them. Seemed like the toppings may have been a bit different from classic tacos. I was thinking the sauce was different, but every website I check lists sour cream or a sour cream/mayo combo of some kind. One thing that surprised me at first, but now I think I may remember it, is that every site I looked at listed shredded cabbage as a topping instead of lettuce...so, wanting to get this right, here's my poll:

The ones in Saugatuck are made with Mahi Mahi, but I am using Pollock. Its what I already have in my freezer!

Hmm, I've heard those are good, but have never had them…you could look the place up in the phone book and call them, maybe?

The texture of the Mahi Mahi is different than polluck…not that it would be bad, just a side note…..I love fish, I wonder if I need to try these…..hmmmm. When you master the recipe, please do share!

I know the texture will be differnt but pollock is so mild I am hoping the taste wont matter much. I think the place is seasonal so I doubt it is open but I could search for it I guess. I'll let you know how it goes. I know most recipes call for the fish to be battered and deep fried but that place does not do that...just pan fries it with seasonings and no batter.

I know it had some kind of sauce but I was thinking spicier than sour cream. Wish I could remember.

Definitely cilantro! Thanks Elle!

I've never had them like that or from a restaurant around here, but when we make them we usually blacken some mahi mahi & add lettuce, sour cream, & if you like tomatoes which we dont.

I say cabbage and some other sauce. Sour cream and fish just doesn't seem like an appetizing combo.

I've never had fish tacos. had never even heard of them until a few days ago. But I'm thinking I would like to try them. I'm not a huge fan of beef tacos all those I could eat pintos and cheese until they come out of my ears. oh, and salsa and I'm one of the ones who love fresh garden tomatoes...
