I stumbled upon a recipe recently to make my own wipes. I was a bit curious and since I have already made my own detergent I did some calculating and tried it out.

I ussually get a large plastic bag of huggies wipes twice a month.  Each bag has 232 wipes and is $6.89 at walmart.  Which works out to be about  3 cents a piece.  If I use 12 wipes a day.... that is 0.36 a day.

And if I but the same pack twice a month, annually it would be  $165.36

So I was in the dollar store about a week ago and I saw that their big pack (8 rolls) of paper towels were on sale for $6.50. There are 52 sheets of paper to a roll and the wipes call for the roll to be cut in half. So it is actually 104 sheets per roll.  I already have the inhredients for the rest of the recipe because they were given to me at my DD baby shower. (I don't really use baby oil or baby wash so it was laying around) So all i needed after that was an empty wipes container and water. Which weren't hard to come up with. LOL....

So I did some more math......104 sheets times 8 rolls is 832 wipes for $6.50 . Which I bought Brawny towels and I am sure I could probably find an even cheaper brand...... SO after I did a little more math I discovered that The homemade wipes were $0.007 a piece..... Which means dirt cheap....0.08 a day!!  So to make the same amount to wipes annually it would cost less than  $45.50......

Their are other benefits also. My daughter tends to be extra sensitive to most wipes and detergents and since i have switched using store bought wipes her diaper rash has also cleared up..... so i am also saving on the price of diaper rash ointment. And my daughter is happier.... So i am happy... because that is what really matters.

So I guess the question isn't what do you spends on wipes? it is What will you do with the $119.86

For information on making your own detergents or wipes just contact me and i would be happy to chat with you,and share my recipes or we can swap...I am always trying new things

I've been making my own wipes since August 2007, when store bought wipes gave my (then) newborn a horrible rash.

I don't know about the Brawny paper towels, but I buy the Viva papertowels.  I was looking for the softest paper towel I could find, since I was going to be using this on an infant's bottom. The Viva, for a papertowel, seemed a bit expensive, until I started watching the sale circulars.  I can usually pick up an 8 pack for around $6.

These homemade baby wipes are awesome.  I even keep a supply of them on the back of the potty for the rest of the family.

OOOOH! How exactly do you make them? I'm sure it's not rocket science, but I've never heard of this before. I can see how the Viva paper towels would work, they're so soft. Would you please post the "recipe?" Do you have any problems with them shredding or drying out?
