Just a bit ago, I had posted in my thought bubble. I had to call 911 because I heard the distinct sound of a bad car accident. Yep, right out front of my house.
My areas not only considered residential, but also a School Zone. It is a speed of no more 25 MPH, especially during the early morning and the afternoon.
There is an intersection where my house is. I live on the corner of the main road and one of the side streets. Then the other side is a differently named side street.
This intersection I was told by my In-Laws who lived in this home before us, is an "accident magnet". Today, I was able to get a taste of what they meant.
As soon as I heard the honking of the horns and then the loud crash, I knew instinctively what happened. After looking at the wreckage from my window, I grabbed my cell and dialed 911.
Being that I did not see the actual crash happen, I could only give limited information. Most importantly was where it was located. Plus, I don't know why, but dispatch asked if the airbags deployed. To what I was able to see from my vantage point on my back deck, no.
Now, fire crew, cops, clean-up crew...they are all here.
The one car that I believe caused the accident is totaled. Her driver's side front end is squished.
The other vehicle by what I can see of it, has a shattered windshield. Also, a tow truck just hauled it off.
Both ladies walked away with what seemed to be no injuries. As hard a hit as this way, it is a miracle!
In the mornings, my kids are on our side of the street to get the school bus. In the afternoon, I have to cross that busy road to get them off of the bus.
Most drivers that cruise our road as a shortcut like to go down it like they are in the Indy 500. We almost had a stop light put in. But, after examination, they decided to only post a warning sign about a hefty fine. Obviously, it doesn't deter the speeders.
Every single day, I have to struggle to get myself and my children safely back across the street. No-one will stop for us to cross. Nor will the bus driver make it so that we can safely cross and hold off the traffic for us.
Looks like the one that had the most damage went to make a left turn to the street across from us, even though there was on-coming traffic. Well, she didn't let the one lady pass and was in too much of a hurry. Now look....
Neither of them have a vehicle. Luckily, there were no children involved. It would have been bad then for sure.
Please, don't be in such a hurry to be somewhere, that you are willing to take chances on the road to get there. That can put not only yourself in danger, but your fellow drivers as well. And any passengers that you or they are carrying. Especially children that you cannot see in the back end.
Comments:
WOW good thing no one was hurt. My aunt and cousin were killed by a drunk driver heading down the road which had a speed limit of 35. He ignored the red light and shoved her car UNDER the passing school bus that had kids on it. My cousin was the only girl in that family and left behind an 8yr old son, her brothers had to mourn her and their mother, so sad. I know what your saying tho, people arent even drunk and drive so erratically just because they are in a hurry.....its sad.
^^^ what they said. in our district the bus drivers MUST wait until all children who cross the street are safely across before they can put up their sign.
Ive only witnessed one accident my whole life, scary stuff.

Isn't that his/her job???

Heather_F , I am so sorry for your loss, and your family's. DD touched our family last year. It was a cousin. I journaled about it after it happened. It is pretty graphic so if you do read it, be warned.
wendy46121 , personally, I have been in three myself. Witnessed now I think two (or heard it happen).
It would be nice to have the bus driver actually make sure that their kids are SAFE before taking off for the next stop...a few house down.
I would talk to the bus garage!
Shouldn't the bus keep the lights on and let you all cross over???
I would talk to the bus garage!
That is awful. I am glad that you and the kids were nowhere near when it happened.
ANd YES, it IS the duty of the drivers to ensure the children's safe passage across the street whether parents are present or not. It is part of the job. I hope that there is someone somewhere that you can take this to, as it is a very serious thing and it would be so tragic if no intervention was made until/unless something horrible happened.
I am so sorry for this Missy it is tragic when any accident of any sort happens. I was on the freeway when two cars collided right in front of me I was shaking the entire way I was about 2 cars back any closer and I would have been the third hit as well. People need to look and slow down beforee changing lanes or going through stop signs in my book you know the song "SLOW down you move to fast." Rings a bell in my head.
See? This is why I hate to drive! Stupid people always in a rush!
They were extremely lucky to walk away!
Im sure your adrenaline was pumpin though!
