My one year old yesterday was fighting sleep and he was actually banging his head against the wall. He'd like hit his head and then laugh his head harder and laugh not once did he cry and some of thos hits were pretty hard. I was trying to divert him but he kept doing it. All sorts of strange things ran through my head, omg somethings wrong with him. He so far hasn't done anything like that today, and the baby sitter said he hasn't done anything like that with her. She basically said it was normal, but some of those hits were like BANG and then he was laughing about it.
Comments:
I think they all go through a stage of head banging. Just keep redirecting him and telling him that it will cause an ouchie. Rub his head instead and have him rub his head. Good luck Mama!
My first son did the same thing. I thought he was gonna be a wierdo!
Ignore the behavior as much as you can. (of course don't let him seriously hurt himself) If he gets attention from this he will continue it for a lot longer. Try just telling him no and tell him why he can't do that. After that if he continues just ignore.
I am sure he will stop soon. GL Try not to worry! :)
thanks for all of your good comments. I was freaking out thinking that he had something wrong with him, because my two other boys didn't do that. He's happy today.
Both of my boys went through that too. I would just ignore it (not letting them hurt themselves, I would usually put them on the carpet and they would do it on the floor). I thought it was just for attention. Ignoring it seemed to work. Try not to worry too much!
I have two boys, and they both did this, it actually hurts you worse than it hurts your son because of all the worrying you do and you don't want your son to get hurt. He is probably doing it because he didn't want to go to sleep and figured that this would be a good way to get mommy to pick him up and then he wouldn't have to go to sleep. My younger son hit his head when he got into trouble, because he wanted me to pick him up instead of him being in time out. They grow out of it!!!!

My son did that too. Its normal and maybe it just sounded harder then it really was?? Unless he starts doing it all the time, I wouldn't worry about it:-)
