I had to think about that after yesterday. Women think just because they have a period they know how all women feel. Well you really don't. One woman could have a period and it is mild and you didn't even notice it, some women don't have them, and some are like me who are curled up in the fetal position in complete blackness crying while asking God why he hates you.

My periods keep me out of commission. I literally have a hard time moving just to go to the bathroom when they hit. I have maybe three periods in a year and when they do hit... sometimes it is hard for me to even stretch out. But a friend of mine just asked me to take a pamprin and just come to class yesterday.

I can't do that. Two Pamprins barely make the pain go away. Midol turns me into a crack head because of all the cafeine. And I really can't drive while medicated. For me it feels like someone has a hand rake inside my uterus and is digging really hard into the tissue. I was screaming and crying all yesterday because it hurt so bad. And when the medication finally hit and got me to calm down just a little bit I was napping.

My mother tells me if I want to make it in this world I have to just tough it out. Ok, when I was in high school I had to have an instructor carry me to the nurses office because it hurt to walk or move. My High school finally accepted that three times out of the year I was going to be staying home and dealing with a menstrual cycle.

For some women our periods are not our God given right nor a Goddess's magical gift. They are a horrible nasty curse that incapacitates us. And those commercials do not know the half of it. So what gives a person the right to just tell some women to suck it up and deal with it when they don't know how it feels? How could the possibly know how it would feel if a grenade went off in their Uterus and you dropped right where you were standing? And trust me I have had that happen before too. I was talking to someone in the hall and then all of a sudden BAM it hit me and I fell to the floor screaming. No warnings, no subtle hits, just a earth shattering period that made it hard for me to breath.

Sometimes I want to rip the whole system out and just sigh and say "Ah, much better". But if my periods are this bad I am scared to face Menopause.

I've heard though that for some women, that is the one thing that seems to help. My older sister had a lot of pain, not so much from her periods (though they were painful) but from cysts. She finally had them take it all out and she's MUCH happier for it. The pain isn't there anymore but she really was getting severe pain every month, not just three times a year.

My periods have been bad too, my mom used to slip me one of her back pain drugs (HEAVY DUTY) which would help out but seriously, it used to be so bad Tylenol with Codeine didn't do anything. So I really feel for you. Pregnancy seemed to have cured it for me though, not sure how that happened but I'm glad.

I was checked for cysts because my periods have been this way since I was about 13. The doctors all say everything looks normal inside. I really don't feel normal. I really want something stronger when these things hit. Because the pain is just aweful.

They did put me on birth control but the Birth control made me a bit skitzophrenic soooo had to go off of those quick. My birth to my son helped for a year but then it went back to normal. Like I was having a period once a month and it was great. But just this last year... back to three a year and horrible pain.

Jan. 22, 2009 at 3:47 AM Have you been checked for endometriosis? Cuz that is what I have, it is fairly common, and boy can it make you miserable!! Muscle relaxers are great for period cramps...

Well I went over all of this in my Hormones question on Cafemom. But the thing is it runs in my family. My sister has the same problem and my aunt has the same problem. People have suggested I get my Thyroid checked and my Hormones checked.
