giving God the glory

Last night sent me into panic mode.  I've had to make the call at least a half dozen times in the past, but last night was the first time I was truly concerned.  Sure, the Lysol kitchen spray was a bit concerning, but since she got a spray in and then puked immediately, I didn't think she actually ingested too much.  And there was the time she ate men's Vaseline facial moisturizer.  Took forever for her to stop smelling like the man.  And let's not forget the entire tube of Avon chapstick she inhaled.  But last night was different.

Yesterday afternoon, my son came home from school all congested complaining of a headache.  Like a good mother, I reach on top of the refrigerator and get down the plastic tote with the children's medicine in it.  I gave him some Tylenol for the headache.  Trying to think ahead I got the Children's Triaminic Night Time Cold and Cough out so he could take that before bedtime.  I sat it on the counter and put the Tylenol back in the box and put it on top of the fridge.  At the moment I was getting ready to take it upstairs, Mara fell off the couch.  Like a good mother, I immediately ran to her to pick her up and see where she was hurt.  [this time Mara was Chaos]

I soothed her, gave her a kiss, handed her the sippy cup and walked back into the kitchen where I find Riah [as Destruction this time] guzzling the bottle of Triaminic Night Time Cold & Cough!  I freaked out!  The entire bottle was gone and it had been over halfway full.

I immediately called Poison Control [got the number memorized I've called it so many times] and get connected to a nice gentleman.  I'm pretty sure by now Poison Control and I are on a first name basis.  :-)

I explain to him what she had taken, we discussed the amount, the active ingredients, how much she weighed etc.  He put me on hold to do the calculations and came back on the line.  During the 45-60 seconds he had me on hold I had every scenario from her having to be rushed to the hospital to her throwing up grape Triaminic all over my carpet running through my head.

He came back and said because of her weight, around 35 pounds, she should be fine.  Just give her a lot of fluids to flush it out of her system and watch her carefully.  He said she'd either go 1 of 2 ways. She was going to either get extremely hyper or extremely tired.

Well, she did both.  She was hyped up until bedtime.  I took her to bed around 7:45 p.m. and she laid her head on the pillow, I covered her up, got her baby doll, and leaned down to kiss her and she was out like a light!!  She gave a little snore and I quietly left the room.  I checked on her numerous times through the night and she was sound asleep all night.

I have got to thank Poison Control for their calm demeanor when talking to a panicked mom like me.  They called back twice last night to check on her.  They are a wonderful group of people and I'm so grateful we have a place like that to call.

[On a side note : all the beginning cases where I've previously called poison control have also been Riah.  :-) ]

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! How scary!! It's amazing how quick little hands can be. I'm glad everything turned out okay. Is she still tired this morning? So, Brennan weighs 40 lbs...I have a 50/50 chance of sleepiness or hyperness, huh. Hmm...lol

WOW!  that is some scary stuff, huh?!  The girls LOVE, and I mean LOVE, to take medicine.  (They are so strange lol!)  I can't even leave the bottle on the counter for a second or they are off and running with it.  Clara likes to hide things, and I know I would never find a medicine bottle if she ever got a hold of one.  These girls of ours....they are some fast acting little things, aren't they?!  I'm glad everything turned out okay for her.
