Update March 26, 2009- Well we officially qualify for the grant, so now we just need the contractor to come and see how much the repairs will cost. If we are under the $35,000 limit then we will get the grant and all will be well- except for having a new baby and possible being out of our house for a couple of weeks. If the contractor decided that there is too many repairs and it will cost more than $35,ooo then we are basically out of luck and will have to foreclose. Please pray that we are under and we will not have to leave our home and ruin our credit. We are working so hard to get out of debt and it would be so heartbreaking to be back at square one!
In June, Maddie had an elevated Lead level in her blood. In FL Lead is not an issue, but in Ohio there are a lot of older homes, so it was a routine screening. Then the State Health Dept had to come out to do an investigation to find the source of the Lead (outside on the window frames is where 98% of it was found during there 4 hour analysis). So we are ordered by the state to have all of the Lead areas removed or repaired. Needless to say, the repairs will total 10-20 grand. With the economy the way it is we could not get financing, so we applied for a grant. We are one of about 25 applicants, and they will choose 9 homes to remodel. The problem is that the waiting is killing me! Originally they were supposed to pick the 9 candidiates by Christmas, then it was Jan. 20th, and now it is another 4-6 weeks! We have a deadline as to when the Lead work needs to be done, or they can legally take my children away. The case worker says she has never had to do this, but it is still a lot of pressure to rush things along. The girl who was in charge of the grants in our area quit, so now the work is being divided among interns who already have other things to work on. i understand it is not a priority to them, but it is our life, our home! Even if we are chosen, the repairs would likely have to be done during May or June. My c-section is scheduled for May 7th! We cannot be in the house during the lead work, so this is really crazy- I may not bring my baby home from the hospital to my home.
If we are not one of the 9 chosen then we will have to foreclose on our house and find a rental for now. Our credit will be shot, but what choice do we have? I am just really stressed. I don't know where we will be living, on top of the normal money issues. It really stinks not to be able to go buy nachos when you are pregnant and craving them! Sorry that i am complaining ladies, i just feel like I need a little sympathy and encouragement!
Comments:
Wow!! Who wouldnt be stressed. I had no idea bout those tests and all the things it implies. Is there any possibility you could find a rental now, so you can take off the idea that they could take your girls away, and that way you dont worry about coming home with new baby, and continue with normal procedure, but you will be away from that stress at least. Is there any possibility you could move, even if it is to a small apartment, it doesnt matter. Do you have family near you?
I will be praying for you.
That's a ton to deal with! I hope and pray you are going to get the help you need! you deserve to be in a healthy home. Take Care
Wow! That's a lot to deal with! It doesn't really seem fair that they tell you have to pay to get the windows repaired when they were like that when you moved in. Isn't that something that should have been taken care of by the previous owner? It's not your fault it's there. They should at least provide some funding for it. If it makes you feel better, you're not the only one dealing with financial struggles. Do you have any family you could stay with temporarily?
OH sweetie..... thats so hard when you are already pregnant and dealing with your allergy issues. I am going to pray that your family is one of those chosen and your home is made into a safe place for you and your babies. It is a horrible time financially for so many and I know there can only be so many grants and places to get funding for things like this. I really am going to pray super hard about this one! Hugs to you!
