Today I received the following email.
I hate bulk mail, but I thought it was extremely important to get this out to as many people as possible!
Please, read, forward, vote popular, tell your friends!!!

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have
determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $869.

It did not seem right, so I checked it out.
It is definitely a phishing scam.
DO NOT go to the "click here" sight.

It could give them access to your computer and information.
The IRS will NEVER contact you in this way unless it is to respond to an email question YOU initiated. The ONLY way the IRS will contact is by regular mail, and there will ALWAYS be a phone number to respond to them with any questions. They will NEVER ask you any personal information as verification. They will ask for the letter reference number only.

You know, I got something like this last year.  It was asking for bank account information for direct deposit.  I was skeptical and didn't do anything with it and found out later it was a scam.  I will vote this popular.

I got this too and it's true, I checked with snopes.com. Just delete it!  The IRS SHOULDN'T have your email addy (unless you gave it to them for some reason which I doubt cause they don't ask for it!). You can't trust anything you get in your email these days. It's ashame! I wish they could find these jerks that send these out!

I heard about this on the news.  They say the IRS will never contact by email.  They only contact by mail and in person.  So don't click anything sent to you from a person you don't know.  There is one out there from the FBI too.

I'm stilll wondering why people fall for this stuff??  Anything that comes from e-mail is either from someone you know or it is junk mail.
