One of the first decisions parents make as parents is whether or not to breastfeed or formula feed their babies.

It is a very personal choice and an important one for mothers to make and to make after much research and discussion with their partners.

It is clear through all the scientific studies and doctor research that breastmilk and the process of breastfeeding is healthier and better for babies then formula. Breastmilk is specifically designed for your baby and helps prevent sicknesses and allergies. It reduces the chances of ear infections and also introduces the baby to different tastes because the taste of the milk changes slightly along with the mothers food intake. Breastfeed babies are proven to have slightly higher IQs as well. Also the skin to skin contact and the intimacy of nursing enhances the bong between mother and infant. With the invention of breast pumps it also makes it possible for fathers to be a part of the feeding process as well. Breastfeeding is also free and saves families 100s of dollars.

Having said that, breastfeeding may not be for every mother and may not even be possible depending on the circumstance. Formula feeding is convenient in that anyone and everyone are able to help mommy care for the baby and daddy is able to feed the baby as well. Also with formula feeding, anyone can make a bottle so the mother doesn't have to stress about getting enough milk pumped for the baby sitter or worry about anyone running out of their supply. Some mothers don't feel comfortable with the idea of breastfeeding because of exactly how intimate it is and just do not feel okay with the latching on to the breast.

Both are an option and not one is right or wrong. Every mother makes the right choice for their own baby. They both have disadvantages right along their positives. They really are mirror images of each other but neither is the wrong decision. Dispite all the pros and cons of each, all that matters is that it works for mother and baby. I hope to attempt to breastfeed but it isn't the end of the world if it doesn't work out. Whatever works for the mother and baby, whatever keeps everyone happy and healthy is the path they need to take.
