Erika is the one who got Dr. Seuss rhyme style into my head. Now, it won't leave. So while it's here, I decided to put it to good use by writing this fun poem about my mother's visit.
My mother just got here
She arrived on a plane.
At first we had sunshine,
But today, it'll rain.
She came bearing presents
And FREE babysitting.
Her daughter is thrilled-
I finally have time for knitting!
The children, they throng her
The adults, off we run...
She can handle the kids.
I'm the difficult one.
I'm used to my own ways
But she's come to disarm them
The yard work? The cleaning?
Don't worry, she's got ‘em.
She likes it done her way.
Quite truly, no other
Can take over like she does;
It's the way of a mother.
Bleach? Can't use enough!
The yard? What a mess!
I just let her have at it
So that I'll pass the test.
Test? Of course it's a test!
She can't help but wonder
If I learned what I should have
From her, being my mother.
I got a few of her issues.
I can control like the Nazis,
But I wanted a share
Of her cleaning psychoses.
Ah, but no luck.
She gave those to my sister.
And now neither of them get
Why my bathroom's lackluster.
I've made peace with dust bunnies.
I've learned to ignore
The toys, blankets, and kidstuff
That cover the floor.
But she doesn't chide. Really.
She just keeps herself busy
Cleaning, vacuuming, washing,
Picking up till she's dizzy.
So you think I'm complaining?
Nah, I'm used to the judgments.
I'm just leaving for Starbucks
And coming home to clean carpets.
Comments:
*gasp* *pant* Seussisms. You know what that does to me!
I love that you're getting so much out of her visit. Sitting back and letting her do her thing is probably exactly what she was wishing for. Embrace the neat freak! :)
I'm really laughing
That you can see
And now I must get up
And clean up this pee
