My grandmother has beautiful penmanship. She is a retired 2nd grade teacher. My 12-year-old cousin has very nice handwriting as well, being under her tutelage.
My handwriting was formerly terrible--scratchy, thin, and slanted (like Dad's!). I began to change it in fifth or sixth grade, and my teacher's lowercase a inspired me further in eighth grade. It is now a thing of beauty, after pages and years of shapes, circles, and straight lines. Mom's is neat, too. Very warm.
