This is the second time I've tried to write this...my internet connection got lost as I hit publish and it disappeared.

Sigh.

Well, I found out I am pregnant on Sunday! I am 4 weeks along on Wednesday, which is not far at all. I am interested in a homebirth but I don't know of any midwives in Louisiana and I've had trouble finding one. I don't even know if a midwife CAN attend a homebirth in Louisiana. I am due in October, so I have been calling the baby my little punkin seed!

Also, I am not sure how to eat. I didn't pay a lot of attention to my diet when I was pregnant with DD... I didn't eat honey, or sushi, and I avoided alcohol, and I drank lots of water. I took a vitamin, too, but besides that, I didn't eat terribly healthy. I did okay, but I want to do better this time.

I had been looking for a healthy way to eat for a long time... I was researching what ingredients are that are common in foods, and the more I researched and learned, the harder it was to shop. EVERYTHING had something in it that you shouldn't eat! Whether it's way too much high fructose corn syrup, (which is impossible to eat "in moderation" since it's in EVERYTHING! Even BREAD!), or hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils (which are horrible for your heart), maltodextrin (which is an MSG derivitive and is nothing but a filler food so you think you're getting a deal getting "more" food, when really it's the same amount of food as the "expensive" brand, just packed with useless, nutritionally void filler so you THINK you're getting a deal...) and MSG which...oh don't get me started.
Milk and meat containing hormones that are building up in children's bodies and causing girls to get their periods really early, and they've also decided eggs are bad for you again. (Whatever, make up your minds!)

It's frustrating. What am I supposed to eat to keep my baby healthy? What am I supposed to fee my family? The food industry does NOT care about making people obese, it does not care about foods that cause cancer, it does not care about US. It's a money-making machine, and as long as it keeps selling, they'll keep putting it out, whether or not it's good or bad for you. That's why I hate the "Well it can't be that bad for you if they're still allowed to make it!"
Yes it can, because even the FDA is a political machine.

It's so annoying! I just want a healthy family! I want a healthy body and I want this little baby inside of me to get the needed nutrients!

So, in the midst of this search, my MIL gets diagnosed with cancer. It's shocking, because she has breast cancer, and then at her follow up appointment we found out she ALSO has bone cancer. For her treatment, she was introduced to a naturopath and an herbalist. She has been put on a Raw Food diet. It's a man in our family we trust and who knows more about the human body than any text book I've ever read...off the top of his head he can tell you ANYthing about muscle groups and how systems work and why such-n-such is happening in YOUR  body. It's insane, he's a genius. If anyone else had said "Cancer? Try Raw Foods!" I would've said "You are on crack."
But we trust him, and he wholeheartedly recommended it. He has researched Westernized cancer treatments and said he would NEVER go through it and would NEVER allow anyone he cared about to go through it. My jaw dropped...

So, needless to say, I'm excited. IT WAS LIKE A LIGHTBULB WENT ON!!!
"I know what's in a pineapple! It's JUST pineapple!!!"
No MSG, no hydrogenated oils, no maltodextrin or high fructose corn syrup... JUST nutrients and deliciousness!

I'm excited.  I have gone all crazy and bought boucou fruits and veggies and I have made green smoothies (fruit smoothies with lots of veggies thrown in. If you do it right it's actually pretty tasty, and it's a good way to get your veggies in! Because trust me, I know, raw veggies aren't always yummy. Raw broccolli? NO THANKS! Just put it in the smoothie! lol)

I'm the Smoothie Queen lately!

The only concern I have now is, I've been "raw" or at least mostly raw for a week. I am TOTALLY convinced it's the best option for me. But, after one week, I just found out I'm pregnant, and I'm wondering what foods to eat. I am loving me some kiwi and bananas, and I usually hate bananas, and I am drinking tons of water. But I am new at this, and I'll be honest and say before now I barely ate ANY fruits and veggies, hardly ANY vegetables....so I am trying to broaden my horizons and try new foods but I don't know what to pick! Some Raw Foodists who are hardcore do not take vitamins at all. I need to buy a prenatal vitamin, but I'm still taking my normal daily multivitamin. But what do they have against vitamins? Are they not good for you? That would seem odd to me. Do they not absorb the same way they do in food? I don't know. Maybe they eat so well that they get ALL the nutrients they need from food!
That would be awesome. Because my vitamins made me throw up during my first pregnancy...lol.

I will keep taking mine because I am so clueless, but maybe I can get to where I don't need a vitamin because I actually EAT all the vitamins and nutrients and minerals I need! Oops, I mean WE need. :D

The only thing I need to figure out now is....if Raw Foodists eat fruits, veggies, sprouts, and beans... how do you eat a bean RAW???
It just doesn't seem appealing...OR easy to chew. :)

I think you can cook the bean, you just wouldn't add anything else to it....

Just my two cents though...  I wouldn't think you can eat a raw bean, you would have to cook it...  Just don't add salt or other things I think.....
