I was cleaning out my pantry today, making "room" for whatever I buy at the market later, and I took out EVERYTHING that I knew we'd NEVER eat, and set it behind me on the counter in the kitchen...
"I hate to throw all this away", I thought...and I kept cleaning out the pantry.
When I was finished, I had 3 counter tops FULL of food that I KNOW WE'LL NEVER EAT.
Well, perhaps we could....I mean, WE COULD, but...we wont. I know us.
Cans of veggies that I purchased that we didn't enjoy (someone else might!), unopened puddings that my kids didnt get a kick out of, more pasta than my heart can process, and cans of soup.
I cant stand canned soup.....none of us can. Where did it all come from?
After my surgery, I was given "Rock Star Soup", and OMG...I'll never EVER in my life eat canned soup again, EVER.
All of this perfectly good food was on the counter; what do I DO with it all???
I was wondering this; and I came up with a few idea's, BUT I thought that eclectically, ALL OF US could pass on what we know we will not use by it's expiration date, and give a tip or resource on your method of giving the gift of a fed tummy?
This could be fun, Sisters...we could start a SERIOUS chain reaction, and bring local hunger to AT LEAST a temporary HALT if we really worked together...Mother to Mother, or Human to Human...
Don't you think?
And, would you mind committing to giving what YOU can give?
Oddly, the Holidays are behind us, and people are still hungry. Who knew?
I promise, what goes around, will come around.
xo
Thanks for your input!
Off to bag up all these groceries that no longer belong to me.

I hope this bright idea catches on...

Comments:
I did the smae last weekend. I also cleaned out my DSs closet and found almost 15 pairs of jeans and piles of shirts that dont fit him anymore. As soon as I get a chance we will be bringing it to our local DV center.
We should get active in THIS group again...actually.
I loved this group!

Ya see? Your mind is never idle and you have such nice ideas! Great suggestion...I'll go look at what's in our cabinets...
Whenever I clean out my pantry, I put it on freecycle...but there are lost of places you could donate it as well. Any church.
So obviously, I'm in on this one!
Beautiful idea!
Great!!! I have been donating for years anything that I don't want or use. I feel someone out there needs what I don't.
Way to go Elle!!

I am sooo there!
I always give away what I don't need or want. Clothes, household things....whatever. If it sat in a cabinet or a closet for a year and I haven't touched it...I donate it. Every 3rd Sunday of the month, my church takes donations to a local outreach. It's housed in a public school! Yes, you read that right...a public school. It is all free. Food, hot meals daily but also a food pantry. Clothes, books, furniture. Classes...everything from laundry to English. I love it!
How could this idea not catch on??? : )
