As some of you may (or may not) know, a fellow CafeMom member in Asheville, NC was recently asked to leave Denny's Restaurant for nursing her 1 year old! Not only did they humiliate her in front of everyone, but they called the cops on her as well. This story has made it to the news, and Denny's claims they asked her to simply "cover up" or go to a more "private place." They are lying to cover themselves- in actuality they threatened to charge her with trespassing since Denny's is a "Private Location." They also have surveillance videos of the incidence, which they refuse to release... saying the mother was "fully exposed." Why won't they release the videos? Even if she WAS fully exposed, the law says it is NOT indecent exposure.

First of all, the law in NC states, "A woman may breast feed in any public or private location where she is otherwise authorized to be, irrespective of whether the nipple of the mother's breast is uncovered during or incidental to the breast feeding." Since BF is not considered indecent exposure, there is no need for her to "cover up." If other patrons are that uncomfortable, then they can simply look away while exploring WHY something that is not even sexual is considered something to be ashamed of and to cover up. BF mothers are not responsible for anyone else's feelings, and if someone has a problem with BF in public, covered or uncovered, then the problem lies with that person for thinking that way.

We don't ask bottle-feeding mothers to cover their children or retreat into a private place, like a germ-infested bathroom. If breast feeding is considered indecent or sexual, then bottle feeding must be akin to whipping out a dildo.

Second off, it is IMPOSSIBLE for a mother to be "fully exposed" when a child is latched on. Anyone with half a brain should know that.

Third, we all are very well aware that the only "private place"  a woman can feed her child in a restaurant is in the bathroom. That's disgusting and unsanitary, and I am appalled that anyone would think a nursing mother should be SO ashamed that she must hide in a germ-infested stall.

The CafeMom member is organizing a nurse-in, and since Denny's is blaming her and refusing to apologize, this needs to be national. Lactating women need to stand up for themselves and refuse to let puritanical perverts dictate how we feed our children! The nurse-in will be held on Sunday, Feb. 22nd at 1:00.  If Denny's offers an apology, mothers will go inside and eat as paying customers. If Denny's continues placing blame on the mother, then nursing mothers are planning on picketing outside while breastfeeding.

My baby is due on Feb 20th. If he is born before the 22nd, I would love to join this nurse-in. However, we all know that babies make their appearance when they want lol!

I wish we had a Denny's here! I might let C start up again for the day! lol If they have a problem with one one year old nursing, one partially exposed Booby, imagine me! Shirt around my neck, an 8m and a 24m just a'goin' to town! *snicker* As I stated on a facebook note... Breasts are *not*  [just] sexual... Believe me... Molly gets far more from The Girls than DH coud ever hope to. And I love relating a bottle to a dildo. Love that.

I wish I had ryan already!! I was asked to either take andrew to the restroom or leave at the dennys on topeka blvd with andrew at 2months old! the manager wasnt from here (america that is) and said it was distrubing the other guests. we were in a corner booth. i asked who and he wouldnt tell me. andrew and my boob was completely covered. I simply responded with "you eat in public dont you?" "then so can my son" he told me that i needed to stop or be banned I asked him if he would like to be sued for discrimination or get the cops called for breaking the law? he left and never came back to my table:)
