Craig and I had a relaxing valentines. We went to see Gran Torino and then went to Outback. My mom came over to keep Hayden for us. It was so nice to get out, just the two of us. Of couse, we talked about him a lot and even got him a book at Books-A-Million. Which, by the way, is the BEST book store EVER!
So, I got a new cookbook. For someone who doesn't really cook much, I sure love cookbooks. I don't know why that is, but I digress. So I heard about this book on Oprah. I admit that at times I watch her, but usually only when Dr. Oz is on. It was one of those episodes where I learned about this book. It's called Deceptively Delicious, by Jessica Seinfeld (supposedly she is being sued by another women claiming that she originally had this same idea in a book). Anyway, it's all about how to get your kids to eat their vegetables without fighting, yelling, pleading or forcing. But, I must confess, I really bought it for Craig. He hates vegetables and he agreed that if I got this book and tried the recipes, he would try to food. She purees the veggies and "hides" them in all sorts of meals. Squash in Mac and Cheese, Spinach in brownies (although, that really doesn't sound good), Cauliflower in chicken nuggets. She swears by these recipes and claims that her kids eat them all and she has never begged since. Only time will tell if I can pull one over on Craig. The true test will be green peas hidden in ANYTHING. He hates those things. Here's a pic of the book...

Hayden didn't have as much fun as we did. He did a face plant in the driveway running downhill to the gate. Poor baby. He doesn't seem to be too affected by it though. When I ask him where his boo boo is, he looks down at his knee and then I have to remind him that it's on his forehead. He's a tough little kid! My poor mother, I swear everytime she keeps him something happens and she is more worried about it than either I or Craig OR Hayden are. For someone who wasn't "ready to be a grandmother" she sure does worry about him alot!!

Comments:
I did take us about an hour to make all the purees, but it was fun because it was time with just me and hubby. He really got into helping me! So far we made the Carrot Cake muffins, the Banana pudding pie. THey were both pretty good. I have made the mashed potatoes and grilled cheese. All of those have been hits. My hubby didn't like the potatoes but I think it's because I put sour cream in it since I ran out of butter. He HATES sour cream.

Hey, I have that same cookbook because my 3 1/2 year old is the worst eater! I have had awful luck making anything! I've tried the brownies, and we both hated them. I was surprised because my mom made some brownies with zucchini when we were kids, and we loved them! I also made the pumpkin oatmeal because my son loves oatmeal, but the consistency was really weird. It was too creamy. No matter how much liquid I added, it didn't matter -- too thick. My son hated both and I've been scared to try anything else. Have you made anything yet? It takes some time and effort just to make the purees!!!
