I graduated from UHV in December of 2007 from a program that leads to automatic teacher certification (assuming you pass the state tests, one of which I passed with a 290/300). BUT you have to get your fingerprints done, by a law enforcement agency, for a federal and state background check. Well, doing those last things seems to always be my issue and I haven't gotten it done. Today is the day though! I went to VPD but they only do it on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3. So I'm at the library killing time so that I can go to the sherriff's office at 2, because they do it on Tuesdays between 2 and 4. Go figure.
At any rate, I am taking the steps necessary to become a certified teacher in the state of Texas. This way if Matthew were to ever lose his job, I would be able to start working right away. Technically I can sub now, but they pay based on whether or not you are certified, so I can command higher pay by having this one little detail taken care of. Plus, when I take on an at home job (which I will be doing as soon as RJ is not nursing anymore), I will be able to bill myself as a certified teacher.
I am so very proud of myself!
