Ginny's Secret Stuff

Just me, tellin' it like it is.......

 Blessings in reverse ~

Recognizing gratitude in life's irritations and annoyances ~ (recommended for maintaining your sanity)

(Please bear with me - or not - it really does get more entertaining, if you have the patience to stick it out with me)

* Super bright, blinding headlights.  What are the auto manufacturers thinking?  BUT..... I am grateful that I have eyesight sensitive enough to be annoyed by this glare.

* Clickety Clickety Clicking of a co-worker's pen (yeah, he's getting worse!).  BUT...... I am grateful I have ears with hearing sharp enough to hear this irritating noise, even through the other buzzing in the office.

* Meetings - often seeming to be a total waste of time - especially the one earlier this week - our ANNUAL Anti-Harassment Employee meeting.  Yep, we do this EVERY year.  And, each year it seems to include additions to the previous list of "potential" (keyword here) inappropriate behavior in the workplace.  It's reached a point that anyone at any time is justified in claiming to be offended, which translates into today's version of harassment (which is not the same as the dictionary's definition).

And, then after the meeting, everyone jokes about how someone else is harassing them.  Comical, I tell ya!  But, this year, they actually advised us not to do this.  Did anyone listen - heck no!  We have way too much fun to stop joking around.

What I find completely amusing and paradoxical is the scenario I witnessed just about two weeks ago - (Trust me - you're gonna love this one)

Picture this - a female coworker, sitting on the edge of a male manager's desk - on HIS side of the desk (invading HIS personal space, per the definition given in the Anti-Harassment meeting) - swinging her legs and giggling - definitely not appropriate behavior (in any office setting - but especially for two married employees).

The irony with this is that the female sitting on the male manager's desk was none other than our Human Resources Director!!!  Hmmmm - she was probably in the process of planning the Anti-Harassment meeting, too!

IF I was one to be easily offended (which I'm not at all - lucky for her), I could report her behavior.  Who is the most logical person to whom this should be reported?  The HR Director.  Picture this - me going into her office to file a complaint against  her inappropriate behavior to herself!  hahahaha

(I do keep myself entertained, don't I?)

Oh, I'm supposed to reverse this into a blessing?  That IS the purpose of this post.  Yep, that's what I was doing.  (as usual, I got side-tracked)

So, I am grateful that I am a liberal-minded person, who will not allow myself to be offended by other's behavior, and who can find much humor in this type of situation.

* California lawmakers, who worked through last weekend (I think I heard they "worked" 36 hours - through the night and all.)  Yeah - check it out - I grabbed my camera quickly to take pictures - proof, right from the news broadcast.......

Have you ever seen anyone "working" so hard????

Sure hope they didn't get paid OT for this - especially since they were working on the budget, attempting to resolve the state's 42 billion dollar deficit!

Looks like they're getting a lot done, doesn't it?

Talk about a time-wasting meeting!

So, I guess I should believe that they were able to make wise decisions?  Okay, um, well, uh............okay ........ sure!

The outcome of these "productive" meetings -

Our sales tax increased by 1%, making it now the highest in the nation at 9.25%

Our vehicle license fees have more than doubled

And, our personal income tax has increased by 4%

Ah, the benefits of living in California!  Doesn't this just make those of you in other states jealous?  Are you packing up to move out here now?  (Can I come live with you, and escape this madness?)

Oh, the blessings?  Hmmmmm - okay - I know they are here, somewhere.  There's always blessings, even amongst the crap.  Give me a minute (or two or five milllion), and I'll find them.

Okay -

* I'm grateful to not have their jobs!  And, I am truly grateful to have my job.  I'd be grateful to have any job right about now in this ecomony, but I am truly blessed to have the job I do have.

.......................... which, BTW, I need to get ready to go to right now.

Wishing everyone a quiet, softly lit, productive day without being harassed by anyone.

And, have a great weekend, too!

Hahahahahaha!  Ginny, you have put a smile on my face this morning.  And made me aware that I am grateful to have MY job, where the children that I deal with all day are ACTUALLY children.  ;-)

Well start packing Ginny and move on here to sunny Florida......where there is no state income tax, our sales tax is currently 7% but it's "Old Fart Central" (that's what the kids call it since we're in an area where all the snowbirds come so this time of year it takes us 30 minutes to get 5 minutes away).  We also have incredible costs for auto and home insurance.  My 'blessing' is that I'm not in Miami anymore where, 7 years ago, I was paying $3,000 per year to insure a home for $155,000 and the coverage did NOT include wind or hurricane.  That was coverage I had to buy through the "government" for an additional $1800/year.

Man, did I get sidetracked?  So yeah, move out here.  We'll convert the attic into an apartment and it'll all be good. :)

I loved your post Ginny..especially the hard working legislators...I'm sure they are not limited to California!  Now, tell me again why we are moving back to CA?  Oh yeah, it's HOME.  Kids are in CA.  I do have a hard time with the vehicle fees, like they weren't high enough already.  What will happen is people just wont pay it.  I know when I bought my car new 10 years ago, the annual tags were around $500 then...what were they thinking.

Anyway, great post!
