It seems that almost everything I do always has some type of drama or chaos attached to it...why would my baptism be any different?
I am going through the RCIA process to become Catholic and I am nearing the end of my journey. During the Easter Vigil, I will have my confirmation and will officially be Catholic. I am very excited and am very happy with the choice I have made.
I approached our priest and told him I was ready for my first confession when ever he was ready to hear me. He questioned my baptism...just dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's....doing his job is all.
I told him I remember my baptism. I was thirteen and of course there was drama. I asked to be baptized in the Church of God we were attending. My parents were divorced and both had re-married. My dad, much to my dismay, refused to attend because he was sure my mother was having me baptized into some kind of cult.
I remember the baptism. I remember what I wore. I remember (vaguely) signing a certificate. What I don't remember is what happened to said certificate. In the Catholic church...that's kind of a problem.
Father contacted the Diocese and they said to do a conditional baptism. Basically a do-over. Not re-baptized...just making sure it is done to the letter (making sure all the conditions are right...because there is no record of the first baptism-no papers or pictures...he can't be sure) and there is documentation of the whole thing.
I found this out today, Friday. I will be conditionally baptized Sunday!
Surprise! Enter more chaos and drama...I have to have two sponsors. My hubby, a Catholic in good standing is one. The chaos..finding another. Neither his nor my mother are in good standing in the Catholic church. My sister in law and brother in law are doing something at their church after Mass on Sunday. My cousin's wife is away in Virginia. Her niece is getting baptized. Imagine that LOL! Next in line, her mother. Also in Virgina. So the secretary of our church, the man who helped hubby through CCD, communion and confirmation years ago, the same man helping me through this whole process, will be the other. Sheesh!
So please pray for me as I am conditionally baptized....too bad drama and chaos couldn't be my sponsors...they have been with me for years!

I hope you had a beautiful day for your baptism--drama-free! Since you are on this spiritual journey God wanted to give you a gift of total renewal, hence, the "re-baptism". :) You are just extra holy!! I hope everthing else falls into place.
